IMPORTANT NOTICE: _________________ Trio3D operates as an AGP device. Windows NT 3.51 supports all AGP video devices in the basic install format. Trio3D does not require any of the Microsoft Service Packs to be installed at this time. All Microsoft Service Packs are available from Microsoft's web site at http://www.microsoft.com/. 1.0 Installing the S3 Video Device Driver for Windows NT 3.51 _____________________________________________________________ To install the S3 video device driver: 1. Start system with Windows NT 3.51 installed. 2. IMPORTANT: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message is displayed, select "Windows NT Workstation/Server Version 3.51 [VGA mode]". 3. In the "Main" group, double click on the "Control Panel" icon. 4. In the "Control Panel", double click on the "Display" icon. 5. In the "Display Settings" screen, click on the "Change Display Type..." button. 6. In the "Display Type" screen in the "Adapter Type" section, click on the "Change..." button. 7. In the "Select Device" screen, click on the "Other..." button. 8. Insert the new display driver into a drive, verify the drive identification and path information, then click on the "OK" button. 9. When "S3 Video Driver Update v.vv.vv.." appears in the list, select that line then click on the "Install" button. Note: v.vv.vv is the version number of the new release. 10. If the following message appears: "This operation will change your system configuration. Do you want to proceed anyway?", click on the "Yes" button. 11. If the message appears stating the driver is already installed on the system, do you want to use the current or new drivers, be sure to select the "New" button. 12. If prompted for the driver diskette a second time, click on the "Continue" button. 13. Next, two messages will be displayed in order. A) When the message "The drivers were successfully Installed" is displayed, remove the display driver, then click on the "OK" button. B) When the message "The driver could not be started dynamically. Please restart Windows NT to run with the new driver." is displayed, click on the "OK" button. 14. In the "Display Settings Change" screen, click on the "Restart Now" button. 2.0 Changing the Video Settings or Refresh Rate _______________________________________________ To change the video settings or refresh rate: 1. Start system with Windows NT 3.51 installed. 2. IMPORTANT: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message is displayed, select "Windows NT Workstation/Server Version 3.51". 3. In the "Main" group, double click on the "Control Panel" icon. 4. In the "Control Panel", double click on the "Display" icon. 5. In the "Display Settings" screen , the screen appearance can be changed using the Desktop Area, Color Palette, Refresh Rate, and Font Size settings. 6. Make changes as desired to the Desktop Area, Color Palette, Refresh Rate, and Font Size settings, then click on the "Test" button. 7. When the "The new mode will be tested..." message is displayed, select "OK" 8. A test bitmap representing the settings you have selected will appear. 9. A "Test Mode" screen will appear with the message, "Did you see the test bitmap properly?" If the test bitmap was displayed properly, select "Yes". Otherwise, select "No" and "OK" which will return you to step 5. 10. In the "Display Settings Change" screen, click "Restart Now" for the settings to take effect. Note: DDC monitor detection is not supported on NT 3.51. 3.0 Updating the Video Device Driver ____________________________________ To update the video device driver: 1. Start system with Windows NT 3.51 installed. 2. IMPORTANT: When the "Please select the operating system to start..." message is displayed, select "Windows NT Workstation/Server Version 3.51 [VGA mode]". 3. In the "Main" group, Double click on the "Control Panel" icon. 4. In the "Control Panel", Double click on the "Display" icon. 5. In the "Display Settings" screen, click on the "Change Display Type..." button. 6. In the "Display Type" screen in the "Adapter Type" section, click on the "Change..." button. 7. In the "Select Device" screen, click on the "Other..." button. 8. Insert the new display driver diskette into the A:\ drive, then click on the "OK" button. 9. When "S3 Video Driver Update..." appears in the list, select that line then click on the "Install" button. 10. If the following message appears: "This operation will change your system configuration. Do you want to proceed anyway?", click on "Yes". 11. If the message appears stating the driver is already installed on the system, do you want to use the current or new drivers, be sure to select the "New" button. 12.
