IBM ThinkPad 310/310D/310E/310ED/315ED June 26, 1998 System Program Service Diskette Version 1.22 ============================================ What This Diskette Does ----------------------- This System Program Service Diskette updates the system BIOS program stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below. The supported models are as follows. - ThinkPad 310/310D/310E/310ED/315ED To determine if you should update the system program, please refer to the "Summary of Change" section. To update the system program, please refer to the "Updating System Program" section. Released Version ---------------- Version 1.00 A fix for some problems Version 1.01 A fix for some problems Version 1.12 Support new function Version 1.14 A fix for some problems Version 1.17 Support new function and a fix for some problems Version 1.18 A fix for some problems Version 1.20 Support new function and a fix for some problems Version 1.22 Support new function and a fix for some problems Summary of Change ----------------- Key: Diskette Version (for example, 1.00 means Version 1.00) (New) New Function or Enhancement (Fix) Correction to existing function <1.00> - (Fix) Windows 95 sometimes boots up with Safe mode. - (Fix) When resuming from Standby mode, 'Explore error' or 'Page fault error' message sometimes appears at Windows 95. <1.01> - (Fix) The first time of pressing key does not set the volume label correctly. - (Fix) System information by pressing key sometimes does not display the correct information related to Parallel Port. - (Fix) Intermittent video corruption while running DOS games. - (Fix) Pressing hotkey sometimes makes noise when playing music or VCD. - (Fix) Low battery beep sometimes continues after the AC adapter is attached. - (Fix) 800x600x64K with CRT screen is corrupted by Hot Key Icon. (DSTN model) <1.12> - (New) Add the function 'Will not Standby even if LCD is closed' in Power Management Settings. If this function is enabled, the system will not enter Standby mode when the cover of the notebook is closed. If you apply Version 1.12 or later to your system, you should also install Notebook Manager for Windows 95 Version 1.66 or later. <1.14> - (Fix) Setup Password : Some invalid characters are accepted for password. If you apply Version 1.14 or later you should also install Notebook Manager for Windows 95 Version 1.69 or later. <1.17> - (New) Add the function 'External NumPad Key Attachment' in Basic System Settings. If this item is set to 'NumLock', the system will set NumLock mode automatically when the external keyboard which has the NumPad keys is attached. The default setting is 'Normal'. - (Fix) Pressing a hot-key while modem communications are active causes system to hang. This fix will disable the hot-key functions while the system is busy. - (Fix) Numlock mode is sometimes set incorrectly after resume from hibernation. - (Fix) When the system is in CRT mode, the video is sometimes corrupted after exiting + key. - (Fix) When resuming from hibernation, the system can enter BIOS Utility. It should not. - (Fix) When booting from FDD with CD-ROM driver for DOS/Windows 3.11, the system sometimes cannot be turned off by pressing Power button soon. - (Fix) After entering Standby mode, if pressing + key, the system only resumes from Esc key. <1.18> - (Fix) When changing DOS screen from Window to Full screen under Windows 95 by Alt+Enter key, the screen sometimes becomes blacked-out. This phenomena occurs when the following conditions occur at same time : - DSTN panel - Installed Display Driver for Windows 95 Version 2.37 - Installed System Program Service Diskette Version 1.17 <1.20> - (New) When 'Will not Standby even if the LCD is closed' at Power Management Settings is set to [No], even if the LCD is closed, the external display still works. - (New) Even if the LCD is closed, if an external display is connected to the system, the system can be powered on. - (Fix) If the LCD is closed while Windows 95 is booting, an external display sometimes blanks and you need to press + key to get the display screen back. <1.22> - (New) Support for Windows 98. - (Fix) When you use Windows 98 APM mode and after resuming from standby or hibernation, the system will be abnormal. - (Fix) Using hot key to enter Standby and after resuming from standby under Windows 98, if you choose shut down/standby, the system will enter Standby only not enter hibernation. Updating System Program ----------------------- Notes: - You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack to update the system program. - If you apply Version 1.17 and use Windows 95 then you should also install Notebook Manager Version 1.69 or later. 1. Print these instructions or display them on another computer. 2. Firmly connect the AC adapter to the computer. 3. Insert the System Program Service Diskette into the diskette drive and turn on the computer. 4. When prompted press the '1' key to update the system program. Warning: Do not turn off the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU TURN OFF THE COMPUTER WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. The BIOS Version can be found in System Information which is displayed by pressing the Fn+F6 key combination during normal operation.
