This package is required when you install Windows 95/98 without the Product Recovery CD-ROM. What This Package Does ----------------------- The ThinkPad listed below incorporates several new devices that were not available when Windows 95 was announced. This package provides the supplement file to support new devices and fix some problems for Windows 95 users. This package contains: - Updated INF files for Laptop resolution, - Texas Instruments PCI CardBus support and registry patch file for CardBus/Ethernet Port Replicator support. This package is required when you install Windows 95 without the Product Recovery CD-ROM. The following versions of Windows 95 are available for your computer: - Retail Release Version (OSR0) - Service Pack Version 1 (OSR1) - OEM Service Release Version 2 without USB Supplement (OSR2) - OEM Service Release Version 2 with USB Supplement (OSR2.1) - OEM Service Release Version 2.5 (OSR2.5) The OSR0 is an off-the-shelf version of Windows 95 and is available at any retail store. The OSR1 can be downloaded from the Microsoft Internet home page (URL http://www.microsoft.com). The OSR2.x is available only as preloaded versions. YOUR VERSION OF WINDOWS 95: You can check which version of Windows 95 you are using by clicking on Start and moving the cursor to Settings and Control Panel, and then double-clicking on System. You can check the version in this window. Read the numbers under "System". - 4.00.950 means that it is Windows 95 OSR0. - 4.00.950a means that it is Windows 95 OSR1. - 4.00.950B means that it is Windows 95 OSR2 or OSR2.1. - 4.00.950C means that it is Windows 95 OSR2.5. HOW TO INSTALL: How to install Windows 95 OSR0 or OSR1 -------------------------------------- 1. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs to your hard disk. 1-1. Make a temporary directory (for instance, C:\WIN95) and make sure enough hard disk space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space varies depending on the language of Windows 95). 1-2. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from the \WIN95 directory of Windows 95 retail CD-ROM. Type "COPY src_cd:\WIN95\*.* destination" and press Enter. Where src_cd is the drive letter of CD-ROM drive (e.g. D, E,..) and destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95) 2. Copy updated files from Windows 95 supplement file to the temporary directory. 2-1. Put the Windows 95 supplement file diskette into the floppy drive. 2-2. From a command prompt, type in the following and press enter: COPY A:\OSR0INF\*.* destination Where destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95). 3. Start Installation from the temporary directory. 3-1. Run "SETUP.EXE" in the temporary directory 3-2. Refer to the Windows 95 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation. 4. If needed, apply Windows 95 Service Pack 1 available from Microsoft Internet home page. 5. If more hard drive free space is needed, remove all the files in the temporary directory and the directory itself after installation is completed. How to install Windows 95 OSR2, OSR2.1 or OSR2.5 ------------------------------------------------ 1. Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs to your hard disk. 1-1. Make a temporary directory (for instance, C:\WIN95) and make sure enough hard disk space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space vary depending on the language of Windows 95). 1-2. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from the \WIN95 directory of Windows 95 OSR2 CD. Type "COPY src_cd:\WIN95\*.* destination" and press Enter. Start Installation from the temporary directory 3-1. Run "SETUP.EXE" in the temporary directory 3-2. Refer to the Windows 95 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation. Next step is to install some fix modules on Windows 95 OSR2.X. 4. Install PC Card driver fix 4-1. Run "A:\QFE444\PCCARDUP.EXE" 4-2. Reboot the system The last step is to install OSR 2.X. To install the OSR2.X, refer to its documentation. As for USB Supplelemt file update, please see \other\usb folder (Windows 95 SR2.1) in your Windows 95 backup CD-ROM.
