IBM ThinkPad 240 July 5, 1999 Windows 95/98 Supplement Files Version 1.00 ======================================================================== What This Package Does ----------------------- This package provides the supplement files to support new hardware (for Laptop resolution, Texas Instruments PCI CardBus support and registry patch file for CardBus support) and to fix some problems for Windows 95/98 users. The following model is supported: - ThinkPad 240 To determine if you have to update the supplement files or not, please refer to the "Summary of Changes" section. To update the supplement files, please refer to the "Installation Guide" section. Installation Guide ------------------ A. INTEL Controller INF Update Utility NOTE: * One of the following versions of Windows 95 must be installed on the system prior to running this utility program: - Windows 95 4.00.950 (Retail) - Windows 95 4.00.950b (OSR2 without USB Supplement) - Windows 95 4.00.950b (OSR2.1 with USB Supplement) - Windows 95 4.00.950c (OSR2.5 with or without USB Supplement) * It is assumed that all devices in system are enabled. This utility may not work properly if there are devices in the system which are disabled. 1. Windows 95 must be fully installed and running on the system prior to running this software. 2. Extract the Supplement file package to the hard drive. 3. Close any running applications. You may experience some difficulties if you don't do this. 4. Click on 'Start' -> 'Run...'. 5. Type "C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\CHIPSET\WIN95\SETUP.EXE" and press the 'OK' button. 6. At the Welcome screen read the license agreement. If you agree, click 'Next'. 7. Click 'Next' on Installer screen. 8. Click 'OK' to restart. 9. Follow the instructions on the screen and use default settings to complete the setup when Windows 95 is re-started. Further information is available in the README.TXT file located in the C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\CHIPSET\WIN95 directory. B. Update INF files for PCMCIA Controller NOTE: * These updating procedures are only required when user install the Operating System by themselves (Windows 95 OSR2 and above versions or Windows 98). * Windows 95 OSR2 or later users should follow the Windows 95 instructions. * Windows 98 users should follow only the Windows 98 instructions. Windows 95 OSR2 and later users: 1. Start Windows 95 OSR2 or later. 2. Extract the Supplement file package to the hard drive. 3. Click on 'Start' -> 'Programs' -> 'MS-DOS Prompt' 4. Enter the following commands at the DOS prompt: "COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCMCIA\WIN9598\PCMCIA.INF C:\WINDOWS\INF\" and press the ENTER key. If prompted to overwrite, say 'Yes'. "COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCMCIA\WIN9598\CBSS.VXD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\" and press the ENTER key. If prompted to overwrite, say 'Yes'. "COPY C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCMCIA\WIN9598\PCCARD.VXD C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\" and press the ENTER key. If prompted to overwrite, say 'Yes'. 5. Type "EXIT" and press the ENTER key to close the MS-DOS Prompt window. 6. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel' 7. Open the 'System' icon and click on the Device Manager tab. 8. Remove the pcmcia controller(s) from the devices list. 9. Click the 'Refresh' button. Then the system will redetect the pcmcia controller. 10. Ensure the detected controller is enabled. 11. Reboot the system. Windows 98 Users: 1. Start Windows 98 2. Extract the Supplement file package to the hard drive. 3. Click on 'Start' -> 'Run...' 4. Enter the following command in the Open box: "MOVE C:\DRIVERS\W9X\SUPP\PCMCIA\WIN9598\W98.INF C:\WINDOWS\INF\PCMCIA.INF" If prompted to overwrite, say 'Yes'. 5. Close the 'Finished - MOVE' window. 6. Click on 'Start' -> 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel' 7. Open the 'System' icon and click on the Device Manager tab. 8. Remove the pcmcia controller(s) from the devices list. 9. Click the 'Refresh' button. Then the system will redetect the pcmcia controller. 10. Ensure the detected controller is enabled. 11. Reboot the system.
