PC Server Utilities Diskette, version 1.1, README.TXT The utilities for the PC Server 325 and 330 available on this diskette are described below. System Configuration Backup and Restore Utilities ================================================= The system configuration data for your Server is stored in the CMOS and NVRAM in the battery-backed-up Dallas Real-Time clock module. After the Server has been configured using the built-in Configuration/Setup program and the EISA Configuration Utility, the contents of the CMOS and NVRAM can be saved to a file using the Backup Utility. In the unlikely event that you must clear CMOS, or the system board in your Server must be replaced, the Restore Utility can be used to restore the original system configuration data to the system board using the file that you created using the Backup Utility. To use the Restore Utility, the system board must be physically configured the same as the original system board at the time the Backup Utility was used to create the configuration data file (i.e., the SCSI and Ethernet controllers must be jumpered to the same state (Enabled or Disabled) on the new system board as they were on the original system board; any add-in adapters must be physically installed in the same expansion slots on the new system board as they were on the original system board; the memory size must be the same as before). Failure to configure the server physically the same as before will result in a POST error indicating a configuration change, after the Restore Utility has been run. To ensure the success of using the Backup and Restore Utilites, be sure to record the settings and slots in which add-in adapters are installed in the "Appendix B: Server Records" section of your PC Server User's Handbook. Accurate, up-to-date records make it easier to reconfigure the new replacement system board. Instructions on using the Backup Utility: ----------------------------------------- 1) After configuring the Server using the built-in Configuration/Setup program and the EISA Configuration Utility, insert a backup copy of the PC Server Utilities Diskette in the diskette drive. 2) Turn the server on. 3) After the Server boots to the DOS prompt, type the following command: BACKUP and press the Enter key. 4) The BACKUP.BAT file will run the Backup Utility, which will save the contents of the CMOS and NVRAM to a file named SYSDATA.CFG on this diskette. 5) Store the backup copy of the diskette in a safe place. Instructions on using the Restore Utility: ------------------------------------------ 1) After assuring the Server is physically configured the same as it was when the Backup Utility was used to save the configuration data, insert into the diskette drive the backup copy of the PC Server Utilities Diskette which has the file SYSDATA.CFG that was created for the Server using the Backup Utility. 2) Turn on the Server. 3) After the server boots to the DOS prompt, type the following command: RESTORE and press the Enter key. 4) The RESTORE.BAT file will run the Restore Utility, which will copy the contents of the SYSDATA.CFG file from this diskette to the CMOS and NVRAM on the system board. 5) When the Restore Utility is finished, turn off the Server, wait at least 5 seconds, then turn the Server back on. The Server will reboot with the same configuration data as the original system board. 6) If a Power-on-Password was previously installed on your Server, be sure to use the Configuration/Setup program to reinstall a Power-on-Password.
