Garbage Characters in DOS (Aptiva) Solution to problem of garbage characters in DOS programs on some Aptiva computers There are a few DOS programs that will display garbage characters instead of normal text. Two example programs are Sim City 2000 and Sim Ant, both by Maxis. If you encounter garbage text running a DOS program, there is a solution to this problem. Use your System Configuration Editor in the Windows Accessories group to edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT. Above the line with PS1START.BAT, add the following line: LH C:\PS1TOOLS\VIDEO\TSRFONT.COM Then save the file and exit Windows. Re-boot your computer, and your program should display normal text. This solution adds a small TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program which will take up about 4.4KB of upper memory. If you have any questions about this procedure, please post a note in the appropriate topic or forum area. Be sure to include your DOS version and your model number (i.e., 2155-G82).
