The Thrustmaster Flight Control System (FCS) has some known problems with Sound Blaster cards due to the non-standard use of the joystick interface connector on the Sound Blaster. These manifest themselves mostly as false readings on the second joystick (eg. the thumb switch). MicroProse Software is currently looking into ways to circumvent these hardware problems in software and we will post fixes on all the major on-line services as they become available. There are two possible immediate solutions. Thrustmaster recommends disabling the Sound Blaster's joystick interface and using a high quality external joystick card. Alternatively, the Thrustmaster can be rewired to eliminate the conflict. Instructions (provided by Thrustmaster) are given below for experienced electronic hobbyists to modify their own FCSs. Other owners can contact Thrustmaster, who will rewire the FCS for them: ThrustMaster, Inc. 10150 SW Nimbus Ave E7 Tigard, OR 97223 (503) 639-3200 Instructions for modifying the FCS: 1. Carefully pry off the four rubber feet on the bottom of the FCS. 2. Unscrew the four screws holding the bottom on. 3. Locate the orange wire with a black stripe coming out of the cable where it enters the housing. 4. Clip this wire close to where it enters the housing and tape the loose end coming from the cable. 5. Extend the other end of this wire, if necessary, with a short length of scrap wire and solder it to the center post of either pot visible on the bottom of the joystick. 6. Replace the bottom, screw it in and replace the rubber feet.
