********** CIVILIZATION ********** HUNT VALLEY, MD _ MicroProse Software, Inc., has announced a fall release of CIVILIZATION, created by Sid Meier, game design genius and creator of such classics as RAILROAD TYCOON, F-19 STEALTH FIGHTER, and F-15 STRIKE EAGLE. "Gamers have shown an avid interest in constructive and creative simulations like RAILROAD TYCOON. CIVILIZATION reflects this same category of game and takes it one step further," said Sid Meier, vice-president and co-founder at MicroProse. "Unlike other titles, CIVILIZATION will be easy to get into and events will not be random, but will have a definite cause-and-effect relationship." The simulation begins in 4,000 B.C. and the player must develop an entire civilization from a small, nomadic tribe. As the original tribe grows, smaller groups can be sent to seek new peoples, territories and trades. Tribes will be successful if the player can balance issues such as economics, politics, and defense. Gamers will play on a map of the real world or will explore new worlds on a computer-generated map. The goal of the game will be to survive from the early beginnings through to the present and into the future. Players will encounter problems representative of a certain era, such as nuclear energy and reusable energy in modern times, or may run into historical figures, such as Napoleon or Ghengis Khan. A game may be played in its entirety for five to six thousand years or may be played for a specific 100 year period. To enhance the game's playability, CIVILIZATION will include a "Civilopedia", definitions and illustrations of the terms and concepts used throughout the game. Various advisors (political, financial, intelligence, etc.) will further augment the game. CIVILIZATION will be originally released for IBM-compatibles and will require 512K of RAM for EGA, CGA and Tandy 16-color graphics and 640K for VGA. The game will support AdLib, Roland, Tandy and IBM sounds. A mouse will be optional.
