Desert Storm Scenario Disk for F15 Strike Eagle II So what's all this talk about a Desert Storm Scenario Disk for Microprose's F15 Strike Eagle II ? Well, here's the straight scoop from the people who made it (as opposed to the marketing types!). The new disk should be appearing in stores very shortly. The current release date for "First on the Block" people is May 22. After that, it goes to general distribution. So order now ! F15 II (and F19 for that matter) dealt with hypothetical combat situations using current state-of-the-art weaponry. With the Desert Storm campaign, we now have a real live situation using actual data that we can simulate. Together with your trusty old copy of F15 Strike Eagle II, this scenario disk will allow you to live out the missions that made up this historic campaign, making the same types of decisions made by our combat pilots, and experiencing the same kind of excitement that a successful mission can bring. So what's new ? The most obvious thing is a whole new 3D world, with lots of new objects and targets. The area includes all of Iraq and Kuwait, the northern part of Saudi Arabia, and sections of Jordan, Iran, and Syria. The targets include both fixed and mobile scuds, early-warning radar sites, supply line bridges, the Air Defence Ministry, the Presidential Palace, chemical and biological weapon factories, nuclear development facilities, the pumping manifold at Sea Island, lots of SAMs and airbases, and Republican Guard armored units. Be especially careful of those mobile scuds, as you may not find them where they were reported to be! In addition to the semi-random mission generation of the original game, user selection of eight specific types of historical missions has been added. This allows you to select "Scud Busting", "Baby Milk Factory", and "Republican Guards", among others. No more waiting for a "really good" mission! With Desert Storm, we now know exactly how the Air Force uses the F15E in combat. To this end we have included all the appropriate weaponry. This includes laser-guided GBU-12 Paveways and MK20 Rockeye II cluster bombs, the updated AGM-65G thermal imaging Mavericks, and the AGM-88A HARM. Also, since the Air Force has still not approved the AMRAAM, the correct AIM-7M Sparrow now accompanies you for air-to-air defense. All of these weapons are new for F15 II. The Air Force showed its preference for night missions in this campaign and we have added that capability. The VGA version of this with the gradient sky is stunning and adds a completely new dimension to the game. Of course, if you don't like it, you can toggle it off. One note here: the manual incorrectly states that night missions are available only in the Desert Storm theater. This is NOT true! All areas, including the original ones, can have night missions. As if that wasn't enough, we decided to fill up some of the empty space on the disks with the North Cape and Central Europe theaters from F19. These have been available to owners of both games, but now F15-only owners can get all the available worlds with a single purchase. But be forewarned, these two theaters are HARD! Attempt them only after honing your skills in the "regular" areas. A few personal notes: This scenario disk was a real blast to put together. It was done during the period immediately following the war, when emotions and patriotism were still running very high. The thrill of "being there" through computer simulation is unparalleled. I hope you have as much fun with it as I have. Secondly, I want to ask everyone who plays and enjoys this scenario disk to purchase it. This is an experiment for Microprose. It is our first scenario disk and may just be our last. There are many here who believe that it cannot be successful due to piracy. I feel that the package we have put together offers excellent value. We have added many months worth of additional playing time to a classic game and put it into a significant historical perspective. In addition to the usual information on game mechanics, the 32-page manual gives a great background on Middle East politics and the Desert Storm campaign. The inclusion of the North Cape and Central Europe worlds is just more icing on the cake. All of this comes for a paltry $20 at retail (MSRP is $29.95). So RUN, don't walk, to your nearest retailer for the DESERT STORM SCENARIO DISK for F15 Strike Eagle II. Andy Hollis - Project Leader and Programmer (5/16/91)
