TO: PC Club Members FROM: Bill Stealey, President MicroProse Software, Inc. RE: Release of GUNSHIP-2000 Thank you for all of your interest in GUNSHIP -2000. We are excited about the product and I hope that you will enjoy it when it arrives. I am a little bit concerned about your negative comments on our marketing of GUNSHIP-2000. If there were enough hard-core guys like you and me to sell this game to, we would not be concerned about mass-marketing the product. MicroProse needs to sell a reasonable high number of copies to a large number of consumers in order to be able to afford to spend the mega-bucks ($) that it takes to make outstanding games like GUNSHIP-2000. It is Marketing's job to let the general public know about this game. The more the general public buys this game, the more time, effort and money we invest in the next product for us hard-core guys--like you and me. Additionally, you complained about late product. In fact, I wish we could have released all of our fine products in 1984 and then we could just play them all. Software people, artists and game designers are a very dedicated, motivated and hard-working group. The Gunship-2000 team has been busting their backsides for more than six months to try and finish this game on-time. They have been spending long nights, weekends and holidays so that you and I would have a great product to play! It was not finished on their original release date, but not because of lack of effort. If this type of product were easy, anybody could do it. The team would always like to take more time. We come up with ten great ideas a day and they have implemented most of them in GUNSHIP-2000. It is an art, not a science, to make a great computer game. You can not exactly schedule creativity--although we try to all of the time. The original GUNSHIP was held up for more than a year because it just wasn't good enough. GUNSHIP-2000 is just about complete and it will be only four months late. Our guys have done "one helluva job". I can only hope that you will appreciate their efforts. I also hope that you will tell all your friends that GUNSHIP-2000 is coming and, like the original GUNSHIP is expected to be just as terrific. Our Product Development teams will be pleased that they worked so hard to bring you such an outstanding product--even if it is late. REMEMBER: Great Products--not premature products. For all of you fans, customers, and friends that have been around for the ten years that Sid and I have been doing this, thanks a lot! We will keep doing games to the best of our ability and we appreciate all of your support. For the rest of you who are concerned about our marketing efforts, I am sorry, but we are trying. Thanks to all of you for your notes about our simulations. I hope that you have a great time with this product and all of our other products. I look forward to playing F-117-A, GUNSHIP-2000, and CIVILIZATION with you this Fall. Regards, "Wild Bill" Stealey Fighter Pilot President MicroProse Software, Inc.
