System ROMPaq Diskette Build Instructions 1. The following files should have been created when the SoftPaq file was unpacked. Verify that these files are present in your current directory. README.TXT (this file) QRST5.EXE ROMPAQ._01 2. Obtain a formatted 1.44 MB 3.5 inch diskette. 3. Create the diskette image by running this command at the DOS prompt: QRST (and press ENTER) 4. The "Choose the Transfer Type..." prompt appears. Choose the highlighted, default selection "All diskettes in the Set" by pressing ENTER. 5. The "You will need to have the specified number of each type(s) of pre-formatted media..." prompt appears. It is asking for one 1.44 MB diskette. Verify that you have a formatted 1.44 MB diskette and press ENTER to accept and continue. IMPORTANT: Only a 1.44 MB diskette can be used, other types of media cannot be substituted. 6. The "Create diskette number one, insert a 1.44 MB diskette into drive [A] or [B]" prompt is given. (Either A or B will be included in the prompt, depending on where your 3.5 inch diskette drive is located.) If the drive shown in the prompt is not the one you wish to use, change the value by pressing either A or B. At this point, you can optionally print a label (if your printer is attached) by pressing F5. To begin diskette creation, press ENTER. 7. A counter box will be displayed during creation showing status. The number of cylinders will count up to 80. 8. When QRST has completed, it will exit back to DOS with the message: "QRST: Transfer Completed" 9. At this point, the Systems/User ROMPaq diskette has been created and is ready to use for upgrading the installed options. Systems ROMPaq Upgrade Instructions 1. Insert the Systems/User ROMPaq diskette into the bootable floppy drive. 2. Power cycle the system. Turn unit off then back on. 3. After ROMPaq has scanned the system for installed and supported devices, a screen appears indicating the Systems/User ROMPaq diskette version. Press Enter 4. A list of images installed and supported by this version of the Systems/User ROMPaq diskette will then be displayed. Press Enter to select the desired image on the list. 5. After pressing Enter, ROMPaq will check to see if there is a newer firmware image available on the diskette for the selected device. One of two possibilities exist: If a newer firmware image IS NOT available on the diskette, ROMPaq will display a message indicating this. In this case, press Enter AND PROCEED TO STEP NUMBER EIGHT below. If a newer firmware image IS available on the diskette, ROMPaq will prompt you to "Select an image". Normally, there will only be a single firmware image to select, so press Enter to select the firmware revision shown. 6. When ROMPaq asks you whether it is OK to reprogram the selected device(s), press Enter to proceed. Do not interrupt the Flash reprogramming process in any way, or the firmware on the device being programmed may be destroyed. This means: 1. Do not turn off power, and 2. Do not remove or install hot-pluggable disk drives. Wait for the Flash process to complete. 7. When the Flash process has completed, a message will be displayed indicating this. Press Enter to continue. (If an error occurs, call the Compaq technical support hotline) 8. ROMPaq will confirm that you want to continue to reprogram the ROM. Press Enter to verify that you do and continue with the flash process. 9. When prompted, remove the ROMPaq diskette from the floppy drive and power cycle the system.
