Softpaq Solution: SP0994 File Name: FMSYNTH.EXE Version 1.1 Title: Disable FM Synthesis port (388h) on Deskpro XL and Deskpro XE, to allow boards (ie. IBM SDLC) that use that port to function properly. _______________________________________________________________________ CATEGORY: Software Solution EFFECTIVE DATE: 11-03-1994 PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Deskpro XE and Deskpro XL Families OPERATING SYSTEM: MS-DOS 6.0 or greater SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: ISA/EISA board using I/O port 388h and Compaq Audio Enabled. DESCRIPTION: FMSYNTH.EXE toggles the FM Synthesis port (0388h) on the above mentioned Compaq computers, leaving the rest of the audio alone. Some boards need I/O port 388h, IBM SDLC board needs 380h-38fh, and will not function properly with the FM Synthesis port enabled. NOTE: Any Sound Blaster Compatible sound system will have this port enabled and cause problems with those boards. This program will only work with the onboard Audio Controllers for the above mentioned machines. This version of FMSYNTH (1.1) replaces the previous version of FMSYNTH. The pervious version would not work on the Deskpro XE. SUPERSEDES: FMSYNTH.EXE version 1.0 (SP0920.EXE) HOW TO USE: 1. If SoftPaq obtained on diskette, copy the SoftPaq file to a temporary directory on the hard drive and go to that directory: MD C:\CPQ COPY A:\SP0921.EXE C:\CPQ C: CD \CPQ If SoftPaq downloaded from BBS, go to the directory where downloaded to: C: CD \CPQ 2. From that drive and directory, run the SoftPaq utility to unbind the primary files. Type SP0921.EXE (and press ENTER). The following files should be created: FMSYNTH.DOC FMSYNTH.EXE 3. Copy the files to the directory where you want to keep the files. COPY FMSYNTH.* \[your choice] 4. FMSYNTH.EXE should be installed in CONFIG.SYS prior to loading any drivers for the card(s) requiring port 388h. It can also be run from the DOS prompt prior to any programs that talk to the card. Each time FMSYNTH is executed it will toggle the FM Synthesis port from Disabled to Enabled then back again. 5. If the onboard Audio is disabled, then the FM Synthesis port does not exist so this program is not needed. OUTPUT: FMSynth.EXE v1.1 - Copyright (C) COMPAQ Computer Corp. 1994 FM Synthesis is Disabled
