Softpaq Solution: SP1076 Filename: N/A Title: Compaq Utility for DOS and the Intel Pentium FPU Version: 1.00 Rev A ______________________________________________________________________ CATEGORY: Software Solution / Servers, Desktop EFFECTIVITY DATE: 12-28-94 PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Any Compaq products containing Intel Pentium processor with faulty Floating Point Unit (FPU) OPERATING SYSTEM: MS-DOS 5.0 or greater SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A SUPERCEDES: None DESCRIPTION: This software lets you disable the floating point co-processor (FPU) of an Intel Pentium under MS-DOS. Because the FPU cannot be completely disabled, this software is not a foolproof solution. However, most commercial software will behave as if there were no co-processor installed. This gives you the choice to sacrifice some performance for protection from the Pentium flaw. The software consists of a driver, an installation utility, and an enable/disable program. HOW TO USE: 1. After downloading the SoftPaq, copy it to an empty directory and change to that directory. If downloaded in zipped format (.ZIP), unzip the file to create an executable: PKUNZIP SP1076 2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file to unbind the primary files: SP1076 [ENTER] The following files should be created: P5RDME.TXT P5PATCH.SYS INSTALL.EXE PENTFPU.EXE 3. To install and use the software, refer to P5RDME.TXT.
