Softpaq Solution: SP1212 File Name: NPFC Title: NetWare Programs From Compaq (NPFC) Version: 2.55D Language: English CATEGORY: Drivers / Servers EFFECTIVE DATE: 05-12-95 PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All OPERATING SYSTEM: n/a SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: n/a SUPERSEDES: SP1097 KEYWORDS: DRIVERS NETFLEX NETWARE NETWORK NOVELL NPFC ODI SBACKUP SCSI SERVER SOFTPAQ DESCRIPTION: Contains the files to create the NetWare Programs From Compaq Diskette and the NetWare Programs From Compaq Supplement Diskette. The NPFC and NPFC Supplement diskettes contain NetWare drivers, NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs), and support information to optimize the performance of NetWare on Compaq servers. The readme files for NPFC and NPFC Supplement are available as WINHELP files. To obtain the WINHELP files, download SoftPaq SP1213. The WHATSNEW.RDM file, found on each NPFC diskette, contains detailed information about the updates, new features, and fixes in this version. Some of the highlights include: CPQSDISK.DSK v2.01 Updates: - This driver has been updated to better handle hot-plugging a Fast-SCSI-2 drive into a drive bay previously occupied by a Fast-Wide SCSI-2 drive. With previous versions, the driver may have failed to initialize the replacement drive. CPQSCD.DSK v1.11 Updates: - Provides additional SCSI controller information for Compaq Insight Manager. CPQSTAPE.DSK Updates: - Now, the driver will sense the invalid media in the tape drive, and return the following error message: "CPQSTAPE: Error-incompatible medium is installed." CPQS710.DSK v2.01 Updates: - Fixes a problem in the CPQS710.DSK driver which may have caused CPQSDISK.DSK to send an alert to the console with the following error: CPQSDISK: The Compaq 53c710 SCSI Interface Module returned a CAM status 16h which is not supported by this driver. CPQSASPI.NLM v1.13 Updates: - Fixes Abend problem when loading CPQSASPI.NLM before the SCSI interface modules. CPQTOKEN.LAN and CPQ2TOK.LAN v2.43 Updates: - Fixed handling of beaconing conditions. The driver will now report the presence of a beaconing condition on the NetWare server console. - There is a new custom statistic, TX Abort Ring Beaconing, that appears in MONITOR.NLM. - The driver now checks for the minimum required version of TOKENTSM.NLM which is v2.32. - The driver now updates adapter collected statistics more frequently in MONITOR.NLM. This will help you monitor your network activity. CPQETHER.LAN and CPQ2ETH.LAN v2.43 Updates: - Fixes a problem that occurred when using AppleTalk and ETHERTSM.NLM v2.32 that prevented clients from connecting to the server. - The driver now checks for the minimum required version of MSM.NLM which is v2.32. - The driver now checks for the minimum required version of ETHERTSM.NLM which is v2.32 - The driver now updates adapter collected statistics more frequently in MONITOR.NLM. This will help you monitor your network activity. CPQTOKEN.LAN V3.00, CPQETHER.LAN V3.00, CPQ2ETH.LAN V3.00 AND CPQ2TOK.LAN V3.00 UPDATES - Fixed a rare problem that caused the controller to hang while in promiscuous mode during very heavy traffic. LANalyzer NLM places the network adapter in promiscuous mode. - Updated adapter firmware to fix a problem that could cause adapter checks. The controller would shutdown and required that the driver be reloaded. Now, adapter checks will be logged in the NetWare console log and the driver will continue normal operation. If several of these errors are logged in a short period of time, you may need to upgrade your driver or you may have a hardware problem. - Updated the driver to enhance performance. The drivers no longer use NetWare polling. High EISA utilization is no longer seen in an idle system and performance in Pentium systems at 100 Mhz or greater, such as the ProLiant 1500, has been improved. - Fixed a problem that caused the server to generate a page fault ABEND when the driver was being loaded. CPQTOKEN.LAN V3.01, CPQETHER.LAN V3.01, CPQ2ETH.LAN V3.01 AND CPQ2TOK.LAN V3.01 UPDATES - Fixed a rare problem that may have caused an ABEND or data corruption when using MultiProtocol stacks that use multicast addresses. Multicast addresses are used in environments such as AppleTalk and LANalyzer. This problem is seen only when using v3.00 of the Compaq NetFlex drivers. - When loading any of the NetFlex drivers on a NetWare 4.1 SFT III server, an MSL timeout may occur on the secondary server when using the default MSL timeout settings. This problem is seen only when using v3.00 of the Compaq NetFlex drivers. CPQNF3.LAN v1.00 FOR NetFlex-3 Controllers: - CPQNF3.LAN v1.00 supports the NetFlex-3 controllers which are new Compaq 10Base-T controllers. This controller supports modules that allow the controller to upgrade to 100Mbps data transfer. CPQNF3.LAN v1.10 Updates: - Includes a workaround for a Master Abort adapter check that may have been experienced on a NetFlex-3/E when the driver was reset. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain two formatted 1.44 MB diskettes. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP1212.EXE. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file: SP1212 [ENTER] You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskettes into a diskette drive to create the diskettes. 4. After the diskettes are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1212.EXE if you wish. 5. Run README.COM on one of the newly created diskettes for an NPFC overview and installation instructions.
