Softpaq Solution: SP1396 File Name: NPFC Title: NetWare Programs From Compaq (NPFC) Version: 3.00A Language: English CATEGORY: Drivers / Servers EFFECTIVE DATE: 09 Feb 1996 PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All OPERATING SYSTEM: N/A SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A SUPERSEDES: SP1313 DESCRIPTION: Contains the files to create the NetWare Programs From Compaq Diskette and the NetWare Programs From Compaq Supplement Diskette. The NPFC and NPFC Supplement diskettes contain NetWare drivers, NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs), and support information to optimize the performance of NetWare on Compaq servers. The readme files for NPFC and NPFC Supplement are available as WINHELP files. To obtain the updated WINHELP files, download SoftPaq SP1397. The WHATSNEW.RDM file, found on each NPFC diskette, contains detailed information about the updates, new features, and fixes in this version. Some of the highlights include: CPQDA386.DSK UPDATES - CPQDA386.DSK v3.02 has been updated to suppress the NetWare alert, "lost interrupts on primary interrupt controller" that occurs with some SMART-2/P configurations. These lost interrupts do not affect the performance of the controller. - CPQDA386.DSK v3.02 has been updated to prevent NetWare SFT-III installation problems encountered when a SMART-2/P is the primary disk controller. - CPQDA386.DSK v3.01 has been updated to prevent an ABEND that occurred if the driver was unloaded and any mounted NetWare volumes existed on devices that were managed by the driver. - CPQDA386.DSK v3.00 has been updated to support the new Compaq SMART-2 Controller. CPQONLIN.NLM UPDATES - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated to flag subsequent rebuild requests as QUEUED until the first rebuild request has completed the process. When an array was rebuilding and another rebuild is required, CPQONLIN displayed both arrays as REBUILDING instead of displaying the succeeding rebuild as QUEUED. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated to reflect the correct amount of unused disk space when two or more logical drives have been expanded. Previously, CPQONLIN displayed incorrect available disk space before the existing logical drives were re-spanned across the old and new disk space. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated to complete all processes before the application is removed from server memory when UNLOAD was issued at the console prompt. An ABEND occurred when CPQONLIN was unloaded while the application was busy. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated with the correct error message. When a user attempted to remove a spare drive associated with an array that included a failed drive, the following incorrect message displayed: - CPQONLIN.NLM detected an internal error. It may be due to a lack of available memory in this system. Either unload other NLM(s) or down your server and try this operation again. Spare drives may not be removed from arrays that contain failed drives. The correct error panel will display in CPQONLIN v1.03. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated to insure compatibility between the Compaq Array Configuration Utility and the Compaq Array Configuration Utility for NetWare (CPQONLIN.NLM). When CPQONLIN.NLM is used to configure certain SMART-2 options and then the Compaq Array Configuration Utility is used later, an "ERROR 66" may have occurred. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated to allow the cache to be disabled on the last logical cache-enabled drive. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.03 has been updated to display the correct physical configuration of an array when an assigned spare drive fails. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.02 has been updated to prevent a possible NetWare server ABEND. When the Compaq Insight Agents are installed and CPQONLIN.NLM v1.01 or earlier is used to view the expand or rebuild completion status (F3 key), an ABEND may have occurred. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.02 has been updated to prevent an incorrect error panel from displaying when the Compaq Insight Agents are loaded. If the Compaq Insight Agents are loaded and you receive the following error message, upgrade CPQONLIN.NLM rather than following the instructions in the error message. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.01 provides support for configuring the Compaq SMART-2 Controller without downing the NetWare server. Expanding, deleting and creating arrays can be done on-line with this utility. For more information, see the ARRAY.RDM file. - CPQONLIN.NLM v1.01 cannot be loaded from a DOS partition. Attempting to load this NLM from DOS may cause the server to hang. The message, THIS NLM CONTAINS NO MESSAGES, may also appear. These error conditions occur because NWSNUT.NLM requires certain files that are not available on the DOS partition. Copy the CPQONLIN.NLM into a directory on a NetWare volume such as SYS:SYSTEM. CPQSDISK.DSK UPDATES - CPQSDISK.DSK v2.02 has been updated to prevent it from inadvertently taking action on false notices of fan failures from some Fast-Wide SCSI-2 ProLiant Storage Systems. The action taken by the driver for a fan failure is to deactivate all of the devices in the ProLiant Storage System and spin them down to prevent overheating. CPQS710.DSK UPDATES - CPQS710.DSK v2.03 fixes a potential "CPQS710: Fatal Condition detected!" ABEND when the "EXIT to DOS" command is executed if a controller using the CPQS710.DSK driver shares an interrupt with a dissimilar controller (i.e. one that is not managed by CPQS710.DSK). CPQSTAPE.DSK UPDATES - CPQSTAPE.DSK v1.17 corrects a NetWare SBackup problem. SBackup experienced a hang condition while mounting the media on Compaq DAT drives after running multiple backup sessions. - CPQSTAPE.DSK v1.17 corrects a problem encountered with NetWare 4.1 when SBackup was loaded. If a tape was not present in a drive when CPQSTAPE.DSK was loaded, SBackup did not recognize the tape drive. CPQNF3.COM UPDATES - CPQNF3.COM v1.20 has been updated for Novell certification. - CPQNF3.COM v1.20 has been updated to support future VG hubs that use larger training frame sizes. Without this update, the driver would be unable to link to VG hubs using the larger training frame sizes. CPQNF3.LAN UPDATES - CPQNF3.LAN v1.23 has been updated to work properly with Novell's MSM.NLM versions 2.73 and greater (which include SMP support). If you are using MSM.NLM version 2.73 or greater, you must use CPQNF3.LAN v1.23 or greater. CPQNF3.LAN still works properly with MSM.NLM versions 2.32 to 2.72. CPQNF3.SYS UPDATES - CPQNF3.SYS v1.10 has been updated to support future VG hubs that use larger training frame sizes. Without this update, the driver would be unable to link to VG hubs using the larger training frame sizes. CPQTOKNW.SYS, CPQTOKNW.COM, CPQETHNW.SYS, CPQETHNW.COM UPDATES - CPQTOKNW.SYS v1.37, CPQTOKNW.COM v1.56, CPQETHNW.SYS v1.27, CPQETHNW.COM v1.36 have been updated to avoid a potential client lockup that may have occurred on a dirty or noisy network. MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES - All network related files now ship on the NetWare Programs From Compaq (NPFC) Supplement diskette only. CPQPSM.NLM UPDATES - CPQPSM.NLM v1.11 provides support for NetWare 4.1 Symmetric Multiprocessing. See the SMP.RDM for more information. CPQHLTH.NLM UPDATES - CPQHLTH.NLM v2.22 increases the number of Correctable Memory (ECC) errors that can be reported so that a more accurate picture of ECC health can be seen. However, ECC error reporting will be disabled when a large number of correctable memory errors occur in order to minimize the impact on system performance. All errors will continue to be corrected even after reporting has been disabled. CPQRSO.NLM UPDATES - CPQRSO.NLM v1.02 has been updated to support a one-minute Recovery Server Option time-out value. The previous version allowed a minimum of five-minute timeout. - CPQRSO.NLM v1.02 has been updated to insure the primary server has exited to DOS after a graceful shutdown when a cable fault was detected at the primary connector. This is to insure the router on the primary server has been disabled. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain two formatted 1.44 MB diskettes. 2.
