SUPERSEDES: N/A PREREQUISITE: BI5223.SYS (Version 1.03) 5223 Bi-directional Parallel Driver DESCRIPTION: While printing to a NCR 5223 Passbook/General Purpose Printer from one of the Compaq models named above in PRODUCTS AFFECTED, the user may experience a system lock-up. BI5223.SYS (Version 1.03) looks for the INTERRUPT bit in the Printer Data Register [printer base address +1] to be set low when an interrupt is generated. Bit 2 on the Compaq models affected will always return highs when read. Bit 1 on the Compaq models affected is the EPP INTERRUPT bit. BIDIR50.SYS (Version 2.00) corrects this problem by changing the BI5223.SYS (Version 1.03) driver in memory to look at bit 1 in the Printer Data Register [printer base address +1] and changing parallel port to EPP ver. 1.9 mode. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP1564.EXE. 2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file: SP1564 [ENTER] The following files should be created: BIDIR50.SYS SP1564.DOC 3. After the files are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1564.EXE if you wish. 4. Copy BIDIR50.SYS from step 2 to the directory where BI5223.SYS is installed. 5. Using an editor, add a line after the BI5223.SYS line in your CONFIG.SYS file to execute at system boot. BIDIR50.SYS must be installed after BI5223.SYS. The syntax is: DEVICE=[c:][path]BIDIR50.SYS Copyright 1996, Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.
