Softpaq Solution: SP1575 File Name: DIAGPART.EXE Title: Prolinea 575e/5100e Fix for F10 Setup Version: Rev B CATEGORY: Software Solutions / Miscellaneous EFFECTIVE DATE: 14 March 1996 PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Prolinea 575e and Prolinea 5100e OPERATING SYSTEM: Not applicable SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: Not applicable SUPERSEDES: None DESCRIPTION: On some Compaq ProLinea 575e and ProLinea 5100e units, the Configuration and Diagnostics menu does not display when the F10 key is pressed during power up. The Compaq Configuration and Diagnostics Utility, known as F10 Setup, was not properly installed on the hidden partition. This Softpaq creates two diskettes that restore the F10 Setup function. The diskettes created by this SoftPaq are NOT diagnostics diskette. They are patch diskettes that will restore the incorrectly installed diagnostics partition. Before applying this patch, be certain that: 1) the customer has not removed the D: drive by repartitioning the hard drive. 2) the customer has not added a second hard drive. 3) the customer has not copied any personal files to either the C:\HIDDEN subdirectory or the D: drive. (If they have, move them to the C: drive.) Any customer data files in the C:\HIDDEN subdirectory or the D: drive will be lost when the patch is executed. If the above three conditions are met, boot from the first patch diskette. No user intervention is required. The patch program will delete the \HIDDEN directory on the C: drive and turn the D: drive into a hidden, non-DOS diagnostics partition that is not visible to the customer. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain 2 formatted 1.44 MB diskettes. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP1575.EXE. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file: SP1575 [ENTER] You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskettes one after another into a diskette drive to create the diskettes. 4. After the diskettes are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1575.EXE if you wish. 5. Insert the first diskette into the A: drive and cycle power on the unit to boot from the diskette and run the utility. If the second diskette is required to restore the diagnostics files, you will be prompted to insert it. Copyright 1996, Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.
