Softpaq Solution: SP1875 File Name: PCICFG.COM Title: Presario Windows 95 Fix for Intel EtherExpress PRO/100B Version: N/A CATEGORY: Drivers/Miscellaneous EFFECTIVE DATE: 27 June 1996 PRODUCTS AFFECTED: Presario 7200, 9200 , 9500 and 9600 Series OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 95 SUPERSEDES: N/A DESCRIPTION: The Presario 7200, 9200, 9500, and 9600 Series PCs are unable to configure the Intel EtherExpress PRO/100B LAN Adapter as a Plug and Play device. As a result Windows 95 fails to configure the adapter properly. This patch corrects the problem. After the Plug and Play BIOS has set the initial values, PCICFG.COM writes the correct values for this specific LAN adapter, allowing Windows 95 to correctly identify and configure it. This patch is specific to the Intel EtherExpress PRO/100B LAN Adapter. It may not work properly with other boards of a similar type. HOW TO USE: 1. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive (C:\SOFTPAQ in this example) and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP1875.EXE. 2. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file: SP1875 [ENTER] The following files will be created: PCICFG.COM INSTALL.BAT START.TXT SP1875.DOC 3. After the files are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP1875.EXE if you wish. 4. INSTALL.BAT will automatically copy the PCICFG.COM file to your C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory and update your AUTOEXEC.BAT to call the patch. If you would prefer to update your AUTOEXEC.BAT file manually, do not run INSTALL.BAT; instead, place the PCICFG.COM file in the directory of your choice and edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file to insert a new line that executes the patch from that directory. Run the program INSTALL.BAT from a DOS prompt or from Windows 95. From a DOS prompt: C:\SOFTPAQ> INSTALL.BAT [ENTER] - or - From the Windows 95 desktop: Select Start, Run, then type C:\SOFTPAQ\INSTALL.BAT and click OK. 5. After the patch is installed, you may delete all of the files created by this Softpaq in the download directory (e.g., C:\SOFTPAQ) if you wish. 6. The patch does not consume memory. Each time you restart the computer, the patch executes, writes the proper values for the Intel EtherExpress PRO/100B LAN Adapter, and exits. This LAN adapter will then be identified properly in Windows 95. Copyright 1996, Compaq Computer Corporation. All rights reserved.
