SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP2388 PART NUMBER: N/A FILE NAME: NPFC TITLE: NetWare Programs From Compaq (NPFC) VERSION: 3.04 Rev A LANGUAGE: English CATEGORY: Drivers/Servers PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All Compaq Server products OPERATING SYSTEM: N/A SYSTEM CONFIGURATION: N/A EFFECTIVE DATE: 01 Oct 1996 ELECTRONIC DISTRIBUTION ALLOWED: Yes SUPERSEDES: SP2011 DESCRIPTION: Contains the files to create the NetWare Programs From Compaq (NPFC) Diskette and the NetWare Programs From Compaq Supplement Diskette. The NPFC and NPFC Supplement diskettes contain NetWare drivers, NetWare Loadable Modules (NLMs), and support information to optimize the performance of NetWare on Compaq servers. This software enhances the performance of Compaq options such as Compaq Drive Array controllers, Compaq 32-Bit SCSI-2 controllers, and Compaq CD-ROM drives. The readme files for NPFC and NPFC Supplement are available as WINHELP files. To obtain the WINHELP files, download SoftPaq SP2389. The WHATSNEW.RDM file, found on each NPFC diskette, contains detailed information about the updates, new features, and fixes in this version. Refer to the WHATSNEW.RDM file for specific driver names and version numbers. Some of the update highlights by major category include: NOVELL SUPPORT FILES - Updated to suppport the ODI 3.3 Specification for IntranetWare/NetWare 4.11. STORAGE - CPQONLIN.NLM has been updated to correct problems with viewing information on subsequent pairs in the Advanced Statistics screen. NETWORK CONTROLLER - CPQNF3.LAN has been enhanced to support the NetFlex-3 100Base-FX module to allow operation over fiber at 100 megabits per second in half or full duplex. When used in full duplex mode, up to 2 kilometers of fiber can be used to connect two nodes. - CPQNF3.LAN has been enhanced to support the Netelligent Dual 10/100 TX PCI UTP. - CPQNF3.LAN has a new custom statistic "TLAN Device Revision (X.X)" that will be either 10, 23 or 30 to indicate the version of TLAN (1.0, 2.3 or 3.0) that is installed on your adapter. - CPQNF3.LAN now supports the Advanced Network Fault Detection and Correction feature in full duplex mode. Link failures are detected using a receiver integrity check algorithm. - CPQNF3.LAN has been updated to minimize the number of transmit underruns ("Send packet miscellaneous errors") and receive overruns ("Receive packet overflow count") that may have occurred on heavily loaded ProLiant 5000 servers. - CPQNF3.LAN has been updated to comply with the ODI 3.3 specification for IntranetWare. Because of this new specification, SLOT=0 can no longer be used for the Integrated 10/100 TX UTP controller in the Compaq ProLiant 2500. Instead, NetWare will create a virtual slot number that will not conflict with other adapters. This virtual slot numbering scheme will begin at SLOT 10001. - CPQNF3.LAN now supports the "10HD" keyword to force a 10/100 adapter to operate in 10 megabit mode only, which may be useful on dual speed repeaters such as the Compaq Netelligent 1224 10/100 Dual Speed repeater. - CPQNF3.LAN has been enhanced to allow its use with Novell's Client32 software for DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows95. Please refer to the NET_SRVR.RDM file for more information on Client32 installation. - CPQNF3.COM has been enhanced to support the NetFlex-3 100Base-FX module and the Netelligent Dual 10/100 TX PCI UTP. - CPQETHER.LAN, CPQTOKEN.LAN, CPQ2ETH.LAN, CPQ2TOK.LAN,PCNTNW.LAN - Have been updated to comply with the ODI 3.3 specification for IntranetWare. - Have been enhanced to allow their use with Novell's Client32 software for DOS, Windows 3.1, and Windows95. Please refer to the NET_SRVR.RDM file for more information on Client32 installation. SERVER MANAGEMENT - CPQHLTH.NLM has been updated to prevent a page fault ABEND when the Health Driver is loaded on a server with more than 2GB of RAM. - CPQHLTH.NLM has been enhanced to support future Compaq products. MISCELLANEOUS UPDATES - CPQSMP.PSM supports IntranetWare/NetWare 4.11. This support module replaces CPQPSM.NLM for this version of NetWare. All Symmetric Multiprocessing support documentation has been updated to reflect this transition. HOW TO USE: 1. Obtain two formatted 1.44 MB diskettes. 2. Download the SoftPaq to a directory on your hard drive and change to that directory. The file that is downloaded is SP2388.EXE. 3. From that drive and directory, execute the SoftPaq file: SP2388 [ENTER] You will be prompted to place the formatted 1.44 MB diskettes into a diskette drive to create the diskettes. 4. After the diskettes are created, you may delete the downloaded file SP2388.EXE if you wish. 5. Run README.COM on one of the newly created diskettes for an NPFC overview and installation instructions.
