Power Management Events (System goes to sleep while playing a movie) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Due to PC 99 specifications a software application cannot interrupt power management events that are handled by the system ROM. Windows 95 and Windows 98: If you are using Advanced Power Management Support (APM) or Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) the Creative DXR3 will work with the operating system to prevent power management events. Windows NT 4.0: If your system makes use of Advanced Power Management Support (APM) while in Windows NT 4.0, Compaq recommends that you disable power management to prevent the machine from going to sleep during long periods of DVD use. If a power management state occurs while a DVD title is being played under NT the PC monitor will go blank,if S-Video is being used you will notice frame drops and poor audio quality. How to disable System ROM (APM) ==================================== If you find that your system goes into Advanced Power Management Support (APM) mode while in Windows NT we suggest turning off the system ROM power management features. To shut off System ROM power management support, do the following: 1. Restart the computer 2. Press F10=SETUP when it appears at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to go into ROM Based Setup. 3. Use the arrow keys to select your language and press [Enter] 4. Use the arrow keys to navigate to Power 5. Select Energy Saver and press [Enter] 6. If Energy Saver is set to Advanced, change it to DISABLE using the arrow keys on the keyboard. 7. Press [F10] to accept 8. Press [F10] to go to Save Changes and Exit and press [Enter] 9. Press [F10] to confirm 3. INSTALLATION/UNINSTALLATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The device drivers for the decoder card are installed by running the setup program off of the CD. 4. VIDEO CONFIGURATION AFTER FIRST INSTALLATION ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For proper video configuration after first installation or re-installation, launch the DVD player to playback DVD movies or any MPEG files. The application will detect that it is being run for the first time and will automatically do the video configuration. 5. MANUAL VIDEO ALIGNMENT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The overlay video might need manual alignment if you see a thin blue line on the side of the video. Please refer to the Getting Started manual for instructions. 6. NO OVERLAY VIDEO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If the overlay video is not visible after auto-calibration, please check that the loopback cable is connected. It is also advisable to reset your VGA gamma, brightness and contrast settings to the default factory settings. If you need to adjust these settings, it is recommended that you do it with the overlay video on. 7. DETERMINING THE HARDWARE AND FIRMWARE VERSION OF YOUR DVD DRIVE ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ You need to take note of the hardware and firmware version numbers of your DVD drive. These numbers will enable Technical Support to identify the model of your DVD drive if you need to call Technical Support to troubleshoot any problems involving your drive. The following are some of the frequently asked questions on playing DVD Video titles. Q. Why can't I file open a VOB file on the DVD Movie disk for playback? A. The file is probably copy-protected. To play the file, open the DVD Player, click on the Open File button (see the GETTING STARTED manual), select the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS directory, click on the Open button. Q. Can I play movie titles of any other regional codes? A. Yes. It will cost you one of your region settings. You have a total of 5 times to change the region on a RPC 2 DVD drive. Once you are to zero on your region changes the DVD drive will be stuck at the last region it was set to and you will not be able to play any other region. Q. Why can't I fast-forward through the Warning Message for some movie titles? A. This is set during the DVD mastering by individual producers. The DVD Player cannot overwrite this setting, and so the fast-forward is disabled. Q. Why can't I select certain menu items? A. Some of the "hot spots" for menu items are very small--a thin line or a dot. In such cases, try playing the video in full-screen or moving the mouse cursor slower. Q. Why does the menu page change without having to click the mouse button? A. Some menu items are set so that the mouse cursor is sensed whenever it touches the hot spot; most frequently, when the MORE button is touched the next menu page is displayed. Q. Why are some selections such as audio and caption settings grayed out for certain movie titles? A. Support for audio, caption, and multi-angle settings differ from one title to another, especially for multi-angle. Sometimes, the setting can only be changed via the on-screen menu and not through the DVD player setting. Q. Why can't time search be used for some video clips? A. Some titles are mastered so that either time search is prohibited or they do not provide the necessary timing information. 9. TIPS FOR HANDLING DVD DISCS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dirt, scratches and fingerprint on a DVD disc may result in error in data reading. Such errors may result in momentary glitches in the movie during playback. You should handle DVD discs carefully, touching it at only the edges and the hole at the center. Do not touch the surface of the disc. Clean the disc with a damp, lint-free, non-abrasive cloth. Do not use any harsh cleaning agents. Wipe the disc in a straight motion from the hole at the center to the outer edge. Do not wipe the disc in a circular motion. 10.
