Installing Sound Blaster Drivers for Windows NT 3.5 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This readme file provides information on how to install the latest Sound Blaster drivers in the Windows NT 3.5 operating system. The revised drivers include .ACV and .CSP files, as well as CSPMANNT.DLL, CSPMANNT.SYS, SB16SND.DLL, SB16SND.SYS, SBAWE32.SYS and SBAWE32.DRV. The new wave drivers -- SB16SND.SYS and SBAWE32.SYS -- support Wave, Midi, FM, WSS and AUX files. However, the compression and decompression codes work only with SB16 cards that have on-board CSP chips. To install these drivers for different Sound Blaster cards, please read one of the the following sections carefully: (1) SB16 sound card only (2) AWE32 or SB32 sound card (3) SB16 sound card with Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card (4) Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card only To find out more about the PnP support offered by these drivers, read this section: (5) Support for Plug and Play cards (1) SB16 SOUND CARD ONLY -------------------- To install the drivers for a SB16 sound card: 1. Open the Control Panel folder. Double-click the "Drivers" icon. Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers. 2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a floppy drive. 3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the SB16 drivers. The installation program will also install the CSPMANNT drivers. 4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option. 5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where the OEMSETUP.INF file is. Type in the letter of the drive containing the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press "ENTER". 6. Select "Creative Tech. Sound Blaster 16". 7. Click the "New" button. 8. At this point, you will be prompted to select the Sound Blaster hardware settings like base I/O address, DMA, IRQ and MPU-401 port settings. All the .SYS files will be copied into the C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. The .ACV and .DLL files will go into the C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32 directory. 9. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot the system. Click the "Restart Now" button. (2) AWE32 OR SB32 SOUND CARD ------------------------ To install the drivers for an AWE32 or SB32 sound card: 1. Open the Control Panel folder. Double-click the "Drivers" icon. Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers. 2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a floppy drive. 3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the SB16 drivers. The installation program will also install the CSPMANNT drivers. 4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option. 5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where the OEMSETUP.INF file is. Type in the letter of the drive containing the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press "ENTER". 6. Select "Creative Tech. Sound Blaster 16". 7. Click the "New" button. 8. At this point, you will be prompted to select the Sound Blaster hardware settings like base I/O address, DMA, IRQ and MPU-401 port settings. All the .SYS files will be copied into the C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS directory. The .ACV and .DLL files will go into the C:\WINNT35\SYSTEM32 directory. 9. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your system. CLICK THE "Dont' Restart Now" BUTTON AT THIS POINT. 10.Repeat steps 3 to 5 again. 11.This time, select the "Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 MIDI Synth" option. 12.At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your system. Click the "Restart Now" button. (3) SB16 SOUND CARD WITH ADVANCED WAVE TABLE UPGRADE CARD ----------------------------------------------------- To install the drivers if your system has a SB16 sound card and an Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card: 1. Follow the steps outlined in section (2). (4) ADVANCED WAVE TABLE UPGRADE CARD -------------------------------- To install the drivers for an Advanced Wave Table Upgrade card: 1. Open the Control Panel folder. Double-click the "Drivers" icon. Delete any previously installed Sound Blaster drivers. 2. Insert the diskette that contains the OEMSETUP.INF file into a floppy drive. 3. Choose the "Add" button in the "Drivers" dialog box to add the SB16 drivers. The installation program will also install the CSPMANNT drivers. 4. Select the "Unlisted or Updated Driver" option. 5. You will be prompted to specify the drive and directory where the OEMSETUP.INF file is. Type in the letter of the drive containing the diskette you inserted ("A:" or "B:") and press "ENTER". 6. Select the "Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 MIDI Synth" option. 7. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to reboot your system. Click the "Restart Now" button. (5) SUPPORT FOR PLUG AND PLAY CARDS ------------------------------- These latest drivers also support all Creative Plug and Play (PnP) cards, initializing the sound devices in the PnP cards during boot-up. The driver configuration dialog box has been changed to support Plug and Play. The dialog box now sports an extra control, Auto Configuration, at the bottom. If Auto Configuration is enabled, the driver will try to initialize the PnP hardware with the best possible configuration of all available choices. Note: When Auto Configuration is enabled, the Port, IRQ, DMA and MPU-401 controls are disabled.
