GUSLO v1.0, formerly LINEOPEN.EXE By Carl Mueller, 3-8-97 email: simon17@ix.netcom.com This program allows you to keep open the Line-In port on the Ultrasound. This is especially useful if you are using a SB card in the same computer and want to use it for digital effects, but use the GUS for MIDI. Many games close the Line-In port on initialization (i.e. Dark Forces, Tie Fighter, Doom, etc.) making this impossible. This program gets around this problem, by running in the 'background' and reopening the port for you. Type 'GUSLO /?' for more information. Notes: It is not recommended to run in 'continuous re-open' mode, as this can potentially cause conflicts w/ other Ultrasound programs. However, you could try it, and if you have no problems, feel free to leave it that way. I'm doing this now under DOS, and it works on all the Ultrasound programs I use w/o problems. WARNING: Continuous mode does NOT work well w/ Windows, and may even temporarily crash your computer. Do not use continuous mode for any reason under Windows 3.x or Windows '95! One-shot mode on the other hand, should be OK. Here are examples of use, to get you started: GUSLO /s1 /c ; reopen Line-In port continuously, every second. GUSLO /s120 ; reopen Line-In one time, after 2 minutes. GUSLO ; reopen Line-In once, after 15 seconds (default). GUSLO does not release it's environmental memory, so it's not as tiny as it could be. However, this can cause problems and I thought it best to leave it out, since it only takes around 800 bytes anyways (depending on the size of your environment block). If this turns out to be a problem, please let me know. Enjoy. carl
