a function to update individual order of letter presentation.
This function is combined with the function for adding names in
  a group.

  Follow these steps to continue:

  1. Select "Options" from the Main Menu.

      The Access Code Menu appears.

  2. Press CTRL+B

      The Options Menu appears.

  3. Select "Add a Group or a Name" from the Options Menu.

The Add a Group or a Name Menu appears.

The Current Groups Menu appears with a list of the current groups.

  5. Select the group to which you want to add a name or update
      the order of letter presentation.

o If no names exist for the group, the Add a Name Entry
screen appears. Continue with Step 5b under "Add
          a name to the group."

o If names exist for the group, the Add or Update a Name
Menu appears with the names for the group.

From this menu, you can do the following:

ADD A NAME TO THE GROUP
To add a name to the group, follow these steps:

           a. Select "Add".

The Add a Name Entry screen appears. The current
teaching order appears at the bottom of the
screen. This teaching order is assigned to any
students you add at this time. (Refer to
"Changing Teaching Order," in the Bouncy Bee
Learns Letters manual for more information.)

           b. Type the new name you want to add to the group,
               then press ENTER.

NOTE: A name cannot be more than 10 letters. You cannot
have duplicate names in the same group.

           c. Repeat Step 5b to add additional names to the group.

           d. When you finish adding names, press ESC to return to the
Add a Group or a Name Menu.

UPDATE THE ORDER OF LETTER PRESENTATION FOR LETTERS NOT YET
      PRESENTED
To update the order of letter presentation for letters
not yet presented, follow these steps:

           a. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select a name.

The Update a Name Entry screen appears with the
student's name, the letters that have been
presented, an entry box containing the letters not
yet presented, and a message "All letters
assigned" or "Letters not assigned:" (followed by
the letters not assigned for presentation).

               NOTES:

               1) If all letters have been presented, no entry
box is displayed, and no modification is
possible. To assign additional letters, you
must delete and add the name again.

               2) The current teaching order (letters assigned
to any new student added) is displayed for
reference at the bottom of the screen.

           b. Use the BACKSPACE key to modify the letters not
yet presented (letters inside the entry box), then
               press ENTER.

               NOTE: Duplicate letters are allowed.

The teaching order is processed to discard any
non-letter characters, to capitalize all letters,
and to append (in alphabetical order) any letters
not used until 26 letters (total of presented and
               modified letters) are assigned.

The new teaching order is displayed with the
message "All letters assigned" or "Letters not
assigned:" (followed by the letters not assigned
               for presentation).

group and return to the Delete a Group or a Name Menu.

  REPORTS

Reports have been reformatted for better readability. In
addition, each report displays a note "All letters assigned."
or "Letters not assigned:" (followed by the letters not
  assigned for presentation).

Report symbols are different from those in the sample report in
the Bouncy Bee Learns Letters manual. For example:

  @ Indicates "Letter introduced"
  # Indicates "Letter practiced"
  *    Indicates "Letter mastered"

When printing has completed or you press the SPACEBAR at the

PRESENT IN THE LOG DIRECTORY FOR THIS CLASS.
SEE "MESSAGES" IN THE BOUNCY BEE LEARNS LETTERS VERSION 1.03 LEAFLET.

EXPLANATION: This message applies only if you are using Bouncy
Bee Learns Letters with IBM Classroom LAN
                Administration System. Data file(s) necessary
for the Bouncy Bee Learns Letters management
system are not present in the log directory for
the class. These files store the progress data

If the statement does not exist, add the following
      statement as a separate line:

        PATH=X:\YYYYYYYY;

(Where x is the drive letter and YYYYYYYY is the directory
      that contains GRAPHICS.COM and GRAPHICS.PRO.)

NOTE: The DOS directory normally contains these files.

  4. Save the file AUTOEXEC.BAT.

ADDING BOUNCY BEE LEARNS LETTERS TO A CLASS

Refer to the IBM Classroom LAN Administration System User's
Guide to add Bouncy Bee Learns Letters to a class. When adding
Bouncy Bee Learns Letters to a class, necessary data files are
copied to the log directory for the class.

NOTE: If you remove Bouncy Bee Learns Letters Version 1.03
from a class, these data files remain in the log
directory for that class. If you add the program to
this class again, you can use these data files to
         restore previous student data.

Before new data files are copied into the log directory, the
previously existing data files are renamed with the file
extension .SAV. You can use these files to replace the newly
copied files in the log directory.

IMPORTANT: Do not copy any data files from previous versions
of Bouncy Bee Learns Letters; they are not
              compatible.

To restore previous student data, follow these steps:

  1. Select a class from the Class Menu where Bouncy Bee Learns
Letters Version 1.03 was added after being removed.

  3. Type L: and press ENTER.

This places you in the log directory.

  4. Type DIR and press ENTER.

The following files should appear on the list:

          GROUPL.FIL
          STUDENTL.FIL
          OPTIONSL.FIL
          GROUPL.SAV
          STUDENTL.SAV
          OPTIONSL.SAV

  5. To restore the class data from a previous addition of
Bouncy Bee Learns Letters Version 1.03 to this class, type
the following commands, pressing the ENTER key after each
      line:

        COPY GROUPL.SAV GROUPL.FIL
        COPY STUDENTL.SAV STUDENTL.FIL
        COPY OPTIONSL.SAV OPTIONSL.FIL

After each copy command, the following message is displayed:

        1 file(s) copied.

If this message is not displayed for a copy, retype the
      copy command and press ENTER.

  6. After copying the files, delete the old data files by
typing the following commands, pressing the ENTER key after
      each line:

        DEL GROUPL.SAV
        DEL STUDENTL.SAV

the remote boot image file should contain a GRAPHICS
      statement.

  2. The Bouncy Bee Learns Letters Version 1.03 management
system updates multiple students' progress while running in
automatic mode (Let's Learn Our Letters). On occasion, a
workstation may try to access a data file at the same time
another workstation is accessing the file. If this
      happens, the following message appears:

        Diskette error has occurred.
Press r to retry or c to cancel.

Type R to continue. (If the message continues to appear, see
"Messages" on page 7 for further information.)

        REGISTER NAMES IN CLASS
To register the class, the students in the class, and
the teacher in the Bouncy Bee Learns Letters
           management system, follow these steps:

           1. Select "Register Names in Class"

IMPORTANT: Before students can run the program in
                           automatic mode (Let's Learn Our
                           Letters), students must be registered
                           using this option.

The Register Names in Class Menu displays the
teacher ID, class description, and the current
teaching order. (The class description displayed
throughout the program is from the IBM Classroom
               LAN Administration System class description.)

The current teaching order displayed is assigned
to each student registered. (Refer to "Changing
Teaching Order," in the Bouncy Bee Learns Letters
manual for more information.) Once a student is
registered, you can modify this teaching order
using the Update Letters for a Name option. See
"Update Letters for a Name" on page 27.

With this option, student registration into the
Bouncy Bee Learns Letters management system is
automated using the list of student IDs and names
provided by IBM Classroom LAN Administration
System. Each time a teacher starts Bouncy Bee
Learns Letters from a Class Menu, IBM Classroom
LAN Administration System generates a new class
list (student IDs and names). This list is
processed, and students are added to the
management system by their student ID. The
teacher is registered from the user ID and the
default name "Teacher". If additional students
are added to the class, select this option to
automatically add the new names to the Bouncy Bee
               Learns Letters management system.

NOTE: This option does not delete names from the
                      Bouncy Bee Learns Letters management
system, even if the names are removed from
the IBM Classroom LAN Administration System
class list. This allows teachers to review
the history of student activity even for
students removed from the class. Teachers
must manually delete names from the Bouncy
Bee Learns Letters management system. (See
                      "Delete Name" on page 27.

           2. Press the SPACEBAR to continue to register or
update this class with students from the class
list provided by IBM Classroom LAN Administration
               System.

Bouncy Bee Learns Letters scans the class list for
any students not previously registered. The
Register Next Name screen displays the user ID,
name, and current teaching order, and one of the
               following messages:

o "Registering student." for students not yet
                   registered

o "Student already registered." for students
                   previously registered

When the teacher and all students from the class
list are registered, the Register or Update Class
               Menu appears.

        UPDATE LETTERS FOR A NAME
Select "Update Letters for a Name" to modify the
teaching order of letters not yet introduced to a
student. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select an
ID. If there are more than 15 IDs, use the "Next" and
"Previous" options to see different screens of student
IDs. Continue with "Update the order of letter
presentation for letters not yet presented" under
"Adding a Name or Updating Order of Letter Presentation"
on page 5. (Substitute "Update Letters for a Name"
for "Add a Name or Update Letters Menu" references.)

        DELETE NAME
Select "Delete Name" to delete a student from the
Bouncy Bee Learns Letters management system. This
deletion affects only the Bouncy Bee Learns Letters
management system and does not affect the IBM
Classroom LAN Administration System list of students
           in the class.

           1. Use the UP and DOWN arrow keys to select an ID.
If there are more than 15 IDs, use the "Next" and
"Previous" options to see different screens of
               student IDs.

The message "Delete Name?" appears, followed by
               the student ID.

           2. Select "Yes" or "No" accordingly.

           3. Continue to select names to delete.

           4. When finished, press ESC to return to the Register
               or Update a Class Menu.

NOTE: If there are more than 15 IDs, you can
                      select the "Exit" option.

SUGGESTION: If a student completes all the letters in
the assigned teaching order and you want
to provide more practice in automatic
mode, delete the student, then register
(Register or Update Class) the student
again. You may want to print a report of
                        the student's previous activity before
                        deleting the student.

        DELETE ALL NAMES IN CLASS
Select "Delete All Names in Class" to delete all
students in the class from the management system.
This deletion is from the Bouncy Bee Learns Letters
management system and does not affect the IBM
Classroom LAN Administration System list of students
           in the class.

The Delete All Names Menu displays the class
           description and the following message:

             Delete all names in class.

Press the SPACEBAR to continue with deletion of all
names in the class, or press ESC to return to the
Register or Update Class Menu without deleting any
           names.

                    workstation start-up procedure. The
AUTOEXEC.BAT file on the workstation boot
diskette or on the remote boot image file
                    should contain a GRAPHICS statement.
