Ether16 LAN Card Setup for Novell NetWare - DOS ODI Driver ----------------------------------------------------------------- Contents: Before You Begin NetWare Client Setup Simple ODI Setup Technical Support -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BEFORE YOU BEGIN -------------------------------------------------------------------------- If your computer does NOT have a plug-and-play motherboard, the following notes apply to you: 1. Before attempting to install the Ether16 LAN Card's network software drivers, you MUST configure the card's internal settings with the SETUP program included on Ether16 disk 1 under the UTILITY directory. Use the program to set the card's interrupt (IRQ) and I/O settings. For directions on using SETUP, see your Ether16 user guide. 2. Most network software packages like Windows 95, Windows NT, Novell NetWare, etc., include a "generic" network driver that will work with a wide range of network cards. This generic driver is called a "Novell NE2000" compatible driver, and it is fully supported by the Ether16 card. If your network software package asks you to choose the name of the network card you're installing from a list of available adapters, and you find "NE2000" or "Novell NE2000" listed, you don't need to follow the directions below---simply choose to install the NE2000 driver and the Ether16 Card will be ready for use. THE ETHER16 IS ONLY NE2000 COMPATIBLE WHEN THE CARD'S PLUG-AND-PLAY MODE IS TURNED OFF. If your PC has a plug-and-play motherboard, and you wish to use the generic NE2000 driver, you must run the Ether16 SETUP program and turn the card's plug-and-play mode off. NetWare Client Setup ------------------------------------------------------------------ Insert your Novell NetWare CD-ROM and run the INSTALL.BAT file. Select "Client Installation" in "Select the type of installation desired" window. Select "NetWare DOS/WINDOWS Client (VLM)" in "Select Client". Specify your target directory & installation default path as C:\NWCLIENT Allow your system's AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS to be updated automatically. When asked to supply the name of the network adapter you're installing, select OTHER DRIVERS under the Network Board option. When asked for the path to the board's drivers, insert the Ether16 LAN Card disk 1 into drive A and type: a:\netware\odi.dos Select "Linksys Ether16" as the Ethernet Adapter. Specify "Base I/O Port" and "Media Frame Type" values, then press "F10" to save/continue. Follow the remaining instructions on your screen, then restart your system and connect to NetWare server. Simple NetWare ODI Setup ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The Linksys ODI driver program allows you to run multiple protocol stacks with the Ether16 . It also allows you to install up to two network adapters in a single workstation. Using a NET.CFG file, you may also specify particular PORT, NODE ADDRESS, PROTOCOL, and FRAME options for your PC. For more information about using these options, please see your Novell NetWare user guides. To log in using ODI under DOS, copy the following file from the Ether16 Ethernet disk to the directory where your Novell LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM, and NETX.COM files reside: NETWARE\ODI.DOS\ETHER.COM Next, create a NET.CFG file that reflects the port, node address, protocol, and frame types that your system is using. Finally, to log in, issue the following commands from the DOS prompt or a batch file: Commands Comments ---------------------------------------------------------------- LSL Link Support Layer Module provided by Novell ETHER Hardware Specific Module provided by LINKSYS IPXODI IPX Protocol Stack Module provided by Novell NETx DOS Support Module provided by Novell F: this drive letter may vary LOGIN HOW TO GET TECHNICAL SUPPORT ------------------------------------------------------------------------ There are a variety of methods that you can use to get FREE technical help or sales information about Linksys products.
