DCI is NOT to be used by software application packages. If an application wants to use DCI, they should write to Video for Windows, WinG and other client software packages. DCI support for Winodws NT is not available at this time. II. Introduction The VFW 1.1d Run-time contains the files necessary to play back video for Windows clips. These files include the set of drivers, dynamic-link libraries(DLLs), and applications that are installed in a user's system. Video playback means that you can freely play, stop, pause, forward, and backward the Windows clips (e.g. AVI files) in Media Player. The Display Control Interface (DCI) for the Microsoft Windows operating system is a driver-level software interface which provides access to display devices while maintaining compatibility with Windows GDI. It works with the upcoming version of Windows (code-named Chicago) and in Windows 3.1. DCI provides a device-independent way for Windows subsystem software such as 3-D graphics packages, games interface packages, or digital video codecs to access display device-dependent features. After setting up VFW 1.1d Run-time and DCI drivers, you can play back video for Windows clips with the VideoBlitz III AV's display driver. You can change to any resolution and colors that display driver supports and use Media Player to playback AVI files. III. How to setup DCI on your system: DCI comes with a Video for Windows 1.1d Run-time version. You MUST install this new version of VfW prior to installing your DCI. (1) You should install the VideoBlitz III AV Windows display driver (in Disk #1) before installing Video for Windows 1.1d Run-time. (2) To install Video for Windows 1.1d Run-Time Insert the VideoBlitz III AV Utility Program Disk #4, Video for Windows 1.1d Run-time disk, and run setup. (3) Open and play an AVI file. Examples: Indeo(tm) Video R3.1, Cinepak, MSVideo. IV. RFMDCI.DRV RFMDCI.DRV is an enhanced DCI Provider that supports the Pixel Formatter in S3 868/968 graphics chips. RFMDCI.DRV provides Primary and OffScreen surfaces in all RGB 8, 16 (555 & 565), and 32 (x888) modes. It takes advantage of hardware scaling, dithering, color space conversion and filtering in S3 868/968. V.
