------------------------------------------------------ Instructions for installing for the USB Storage System ------------------------------------------------------ Your USB Storage System has been designed to be easy to use and install. This guide has been provided to help you correctly install the necessary drivers. *************************************************************************** * 1. Make sure that the IDE/ATAPI device is setting in the Master mode. * * 2. External power supply is required if bus power is not enough to * * support the device. * *************************************************************************** 1. PC USERS Your USB Storage System is compatible with any PC running Windows 98/98SE /ME and Windows 2000/XP that has a USB port. It installs with the normal Plug and Play process: Windows ME and 2000/XP ---------------------- Connect the USB cable to the computer USB port . Upon plugging the USB cable to the computer, driver will enumerate and will give drive Icon automatically. No other drivers are required. Windows 98 and 98SE ------------------- Connect the USB cable to the computer USB port. Run "G:\OnSpec\USB\Setup.exe" (G:\ is the letter of your CD-ROM driver) inside this CD, choose language preference, and then follow screen instructions to complete the installation process. Upon installation completion, you will have a drive icon in "My Computer" and a green arrow task tray on screen right bottom corner. Before unplugging USB cable or shutting power off, make sure to click the green task tray to "Stop USB Disk( :)" first to safely remove this USB external storage device. The drivers are now loaded. If the storage device in your USB Storage System is a hard disk, you must now partition and format the drive. This is done through the use of the DOS utility FDISK. See your Windows documentation if you are unfamiliar with FDISK. Note that you must run FDISK before you try to format the drive and that you must run FDISK in a DOS window while Windows is running. 2. Macintosh Users Your USB Storage System is compatible with any Mac running at least Mac OS 9 & above and having a USB port. Here is how you install the drivers: Apple OS9 & above ----------------- Connect the USB cable to the computer USB port. Upon plugging the USB cable to the computer, driver will enumerate and will give drive Icon automatically. No other drivers are required. The drives for your USB Storage System are now installed. You now need to initialize the media in the drive. To format your media: 1) Highlight the icon for the USB Storage System. 2) From the Finder menu located at the top of the screen, select Special, Erase Disk. You can select either DOS or Macintosh formatting. If you intend to use the device on both a PC and a Mac, select DOS formatting.
