Yamaha Logic YMH724 Sound System Software Installation and Setup YMH724 WDM driver installation for Windows 98 : ============================================================================== 1. After installing YMH724 sound card into the PCI slot of the computer system and then powering up the system, Windows 98 will prompt user with a "New Hardware Found" dialog box since the YMH724 sound card is a plug and play device. To install the YMH724 driver, select your hard drive or any other drive location which the driver database exists under. 2. Insert the "YMH724 Win 98 Drivers and Utilities" diskette into the appropriate drive and select that drive from the prompted dialog box and click on NEXT. Windows 98 will copy all the needed files and set up all the logical devices on board automatically. 3. Install the ALSRACK player by running the SETUP.EXE file ( included in the "YMH724 Win 98 Drivers and Utilities" disk ) from the Windows 98 Start Menu|Run. This will create the Yamaha Sound Program Group with the ALSRACK utility icon.(See Appendix below for full descriptions of ALSRACK functions ). Troubleshooting: ================ 1) Problem: NO SOUND/Game Port NOT working Action: After driver installation, check under CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM\DEVICE MANAGER\SOUND,VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLLERS to see if the following 2 devices appears without any exclamation point: YMH724 Audio Device(WDM) YMH724 Game Port 2) Problem: NO SOUND from CD-ROM Action: Make sure the audio cable is connected properly between YMH724 and the CD-ROM. 3) Problem: NO SOUND when restart to MS-DOS Action: The Windows 98 WDM driver only supports SB Pro emulation on MS-DOS Box in Windows 98. If you need to play sound under real-mode DOS, please install the DOS driver shipped within the driver package. 4) Problem: NO SOUND when playing DOS game in MS-DOS Box. Action: Please check the Port, IRQ and DMA settings in the DOS game. The settings must be the same as "BLASTER=" emvironment variable. You can type "Set" command to check the "BLASTER=" environment. "BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4 P330" means the Port is 220h, IRQ is 5, DMA channel is 1 and the General MIDI port is 330h. 5) Problem: NO MUSIC when playing DOS game with ADLIB. Action: The WDM driver doesn't support FM synthesis in MS-DOS Box. 6) Problem: Joystick does not work under "DOS BOX" of Windows98 with YMH724 WDM driver. Action: Due to DOS limitation and the joystick is no longer PNP under Windows98, manual setting of joystick to I/O port 200h~207h is required if it hasn't been assigned. Step 1: Go to CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM\DEVICE MANAGER\SOUND, VIDEO ANDGAME CONTROLLERS and click on PROPERTIES of Yamaha Game Port and check its RESOURCES. If Input/Output Range displays any thing other than 0200-0207, go to Step 2. If it shows 0200-0207, refer to Problem/Action #1. Step 2: Go to CONTROL PANEL\SYSTEM\DEVICE MANAGER\MULTIFUNCTION ADAPTORS and click on Yamaha Multifunction PCI Multimedia Device. Click PROPERTIES\RESOURCES, uncheck the " Use automatic settings" box and select the I/O Range which maps the I/O range found under Yamaha Game Port in Step 1. Click on CHANGE SETTINGS tab and click UP/DOWN arrow to select 0200-0207 and make sure that "No devices are conflicting" message shows under Conflict Information. Choose OK to complete the process. Appendix - Driver Reference: ============================ [Windows drivers] ----------------- YMH724 has one kernal mode driver and one VXD driver for Windows 98. They are listed below: Sound System Driver Multifunction Driver Win98 Drivers ymh724 .sys mul4000.vxd The Windows 98 joystick drivers are the MSJSTICK.DRV and VJOYD.VXD which are Microsoft drivers shipped with Windows 98. Besides these two Windows 98 kernal mode drivers, MUL4000.INF, SND4000.INF and YMH724 .CAT are needed for Windows 98 installation. [Information Files] ------------------- MUL4000.INF and SND4000.INFis an installation information file for Yamaha Logic YMH724 sound chip under Windows 98. This file tells Windows 98 where the drivers should be copied during installation. See the instructions above for YMH724 Windows 98 installation. ALSRACK for YMH724 -------------------------- 1. Structure and components: The ALSRACK consists of a MIXER control panel, MIDI panel, WAVE panel, and CD panel. 1.1 To enable or disable a panel: Clicking the mouse button on the MIDI, WAVE, or CD in MIXER control panel will cause the corresponding panel to disappear, and another click will cause the corresponding panel to re-appear. 1.2 To change channel: Click channel"CH" LEFT or RIGHT button to change to the channel you want (ie, Master, MIDI, WAVE, CD, LINE, or MIC). 1.3 To activate volume and balance control: Change to the channel you want (see 1.2), then click up/down arrow button to change the VOLUME, and click balae LEFT/RIGHT arrow button to change BALANCE. 1.4 To mute system: Change to the channel you want, then click MUTE mark to disable sound, or click again to re-enable sound. 2. MIDI panel 2.1 To open or close a MIDI file: Click the button of the MIDI sign on the MIDI panel, click OPEN to open a MIDI file, or click CLOSE to close a file. 2.2 Auto repeat and show information: Click the button of the MIDI sign on MIDI panel. Clicking on AUTO REPEAT or SHOW INFORMATION will enable or disable the selection. When AUTO REPEAT is selected, the MIDI file will play again when it reaches the end. When SHOW INFORMATION is selected, the MIDI window will open and the information from the MIDI file will appear on the MIDI window. When a MIDI file is opened, you can also click the MIDI window to show the information of that file. 2.3 Other operations: When a MIDI file is opened, you can click PLAY button to play it, or click PAUSE/STOP button to pause/stop, FF or RW to manipulate the selection. You can also use the volume control buttons on the MIDI panel to control the volume directly. 3. WAVE panel 3.1 Select TAPE I or TAPE II to playback: There are two TAPE boxes on the WAVE panel. TAPE I can only play wave files. TAPE II can play and record wave files. There is one set of control buttons on the right of WAVE panel. When Tape I is selected, the control buttons will take effect for TAPE I. When Tape II is selected, the control buttons will work for TAPE II. Click the button TAPEI/TAPEII to select between TAPEI or TAPEII, or push the button TAPEI PLAYBACK on TAPE I box to select TAPE I, while pushing the button TAPEII REC/PLAY on TAPE II box to select TAPEII. Note: When you want to playback a wave file, you need to select TAPE I/TAPE II first. 3.2 Open a wave file to play: Push the OPEN button, select OPEN on the menu, select a wave file to play. When the wave file is opened, the TAPE containing the file is automatically selected, just push the PLAY button to play. 3.3 To record a wave file: Push the button REC.INPUT to select the input media (Line in, MIDI, Audio CD, or MIC), then push the the button OPEN on TAPE II and select NEW to create a new wave file. The TAPEII indicator will be red to show it is waiting to record. Play the source media, and push recording button on TAPEII to begin recording. When finished recording, push the record button (now it is a red square) to stop. After finish recording, save the file with the name you specified. 3.4 Full-duplex: For sound card supporting full-duplex, TAPEI and TAPEII can work at the same time. This means while TAPEI is playing, TAPEII can record, or while TAPEII is recording, TAPEI can play. When using full-duplex, the control buttons work like this: Playback button and stop button only take effect for TAPEI, record button works only for TAPEII. Push record button once to begin recording, and push it again to stop recording. 3.5 Synchronous recording (record and play simultaneously): After selecting an INPUT media and new wave file for recording, push button SYNC.REC to begin a synchronous recording. The mixer will automatically play the source file and begin recording at the same time. 4. CD 4.1 EDIT and Program: Push EDIT to select which tracks (selections on the CD) to play and add it to the Playlist. Then click the Program button to play the selected tracks. 4.2 Random play: The Random button plays tracks in a random order. 4.3 Repeat: To repeat one track of a CD, select the track and push the repeat button one time. A single repeat signal will appear in the CD player window. To repeat the full CD, push the repeat button 2 times. A full repeat signal will appear in the CD player window.
