Windows 95 Reader Driver for the Philips CDD2000 CD-Recorder By installing this virtual device driver (cdd2000.vxd) into the Windows 95 filesystem, you can use the CDD2000 as a standard CD-ROM drive under Windows 95. The file cdd2000.vxd has to be copied into the windows\system\iosubsys directory, and the system must be rebooted to have the system recognise the new driver. Note: SCSI devices identify themselves to the host via the Inquiry-command. Make sure that your Philips CD-recorder CDD2000 identifies itself as IMS CDD2000/00 You can observe the Inquiry string at boot time of your PC. If your Inquiry string looks different, eg. like 'Philips CDD2000', this Windows 95 Reader Driver will not work. Please consult your dealer, or the Philips BBS (+31,40,2731112) to obtain a software tool to correct the Inquiry string into 'IMS CDD2000/00'. Note: Standard Windows 95 setting will be the so-called: 'Auto Insert Notification', which basicaly means that the Windows filesystem will check the drive at regular intervals, to see if a disc has been inserted or removed. If you use the recorder in a Writing application, this might disturb normal behaviour, eg. the door might close 'without notice' or the writing process might get interrupted. Therefor it is recommended to switch off the 'Auto Insert Notification', when you want to use the CDD2000 as a CD-Recorder in a writing application. You can do this via the Control Panel (Start --> Settings --> Control Panel), and open the icon: System by clicking on it, then click on tab: Device Manager, then double click CD-ROM, then double click IMS CDD2000/00, then click tab Settings, and uncheck option: Auto Insert Notification. Confirm this by clicking on OK. Note: The recent version of Adaptec 2940 PCI Host Adaptor will cause some problems in using the CDD2000 in a Windows 95 environment: There will be 8 drive letters for one drive, of which only one will work, and booting Win 95 will take several minutes. Adaptec is known to be working on a solution, so please contact Adaptec for any update you may need. Philips Key Modules February 1996
