ATI graphic chips are implemented on many 3rd party products. You should contact your system integrator for drivers certified for use with your system, especially if the ATI chip is incorporated on the motherboard. *********************************************************************** 2.0 QUICK START NOTES 1. Uninstall any previous version of the ATI VIDEO PLAYER before installing the ATI VIDEO PLAYER included in this package. (This step is recommended because the ATI VIDEO PLAYER setup program will not check for TV TUNER and CAPTURE capability if a previous version of the VIDEO PLAYER is present.) 2. Your ATI display adapter MUST be working properly and configured with the appropriate Windows 95 or ATI Enhanced display driver. 3. DirectX MUST be installed. DirectX 5 is recommended. If these conditions are met, you should be able to install this version of the ATI VIDEO PLAYER immediately. For more detailed instructions, continue reading. *********************************************************************** 3.0 RECOMMENDED DISPLAY DRIVER Version 4.35 of the ATI VIDEO PLAYER will work with all 3D RAGE based ATI display adapters. However, different display adapters have different recommended display drivers. Generally speaking, the recommended display driver will be found on the ATI INSTALLATION CD that came with display adapter. If your current display driver is working properly, then feel free to install this version of the ATI VIDEO PLAYER. If you have an older version of the ATI display driver you can download the recommended version from the ATI internet WEB site: http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/drivers.html File name: w95-2278.exe for 3D RAGE PRO, 3D RAGE II+ or VT chipsets *********************************************************************** 4.0 IDENTIFYING THE ATI DISPLAY DRIVER VERSION If you installed the ATI display driver from an ATI INSTALLATION CD the version number of the Windows 95 display driver matches the last 3 digits of the ATI part number on the face of the CD. To locate the ATI part number on the label side of the CD, find the box in the lower right quadrant (4 o'clock position) and note the LAST 3 digits. For example if the part number is "180-G01005-435" the CD is referred to as version 4.35 and the Windows 95 version is also referred to as 4.35. If the display driver was pre-installed on the system, you can check the version number using the DEVICE MANAGER page of SYSTEM PROPERTIES as follows: - Click the START button and select Settings, to launch CONTROL PANEL. - Double click the SYSTEM icon to view SYSTEM PROPERTIES. - Select the DEVICE MANAGER tab and double click the Display Adapters device category and then double click the ATI display adapter. ! This will display the properties for the currently installed adapter. - Select the DRIVER tab. (If present click the "Driver File Details" button) ! The "macxw4.drv" driver file will be highlighted and the file version will be displayed below. For example the file version may be 4.10.2278. This number (4.10.2278) is the file version number used by Windows 95 and is actually the same driver that is found on version 4.35 of the ATI INSTALLATION CD. *********************************************************************** 5.0 DIRECT X Confirm DirectX 5 has been previously installed by running DXSETUP.EXE from C:\PROGRAM FILES\DIRECTX\ and look under Component for Direct3D. DirectX is not included with this version of the ATI Video Player.
