Welcome to EZ-NOS 2.11.K
Harware for EZ-NOS
The hardware for the 8088 version of this program is modest, to say the least. If you have the software version for the 8088 cpu and upwards, all you need is a pc with a cpu from 8088 and upwards, and a small amount of memory. The minimum is about 1Mb of RAM, but don't expect miracles of the performance than. But it will do.

If, however, you have an PC with a 80386 or upwards the 80386 version, I strongly recommend that you use the software suitable for 386 cpu and upwards. Again, it will work with 1Mb of RAM, but 2Mb or more will improve performance dramatically.

The HardDisk can be modest to, you can run it from a floppy. But a small HardDisk of 50Mb will improve performance, and it is easier to put a small homepage on.

Setup tip & tricks for EZ-NOS
If possible, use the 80386 version of the program. Use the smartdrive.exe in the autoexec.bat, with switches 512 or1024 en your performance will boost dramatically.

#According to various descriptions that I found on the net and my own experience, it is an application that is hungry for memory. If you start the server, you can find the amount of free memory in the /logs directory. It must be (at startup) at least 150kb. Is it 50kb or below, the server won't operate properly. Since this machine runs on DOS, it is important to keep the first 640kb of memory as empty as possible. If you run DOS 6.2, run a program called memmaker to free as much memory as possible.

#If you are using the ftp-server, you can get every user that you admit on the server a welcome message. Just place a textfile named message.ftp in every users home-directory. This means that you can give every user another welcome message, if you want.

#It seems that it is desirable to restart the machine every 24 hours, although I have experienced no problems. The command for restart is written in the autoexec.nos with the command:

at 0500 reboot

time of reboot is 0500 hour.

# It seems useless to delete the /finger and the dirs below /spool, since the program makes these files itself if deleted.

#One other thing you have to watch is that the name of first page, that MUST be root.htm (in folder /www). The opening page in a new folder MUST be named welcome.htm. All pages, pictures etc must be in dos format 8.3.

#And last but not least, in the file ftpusers (in /nos, just an txt file) you can (and must) give permissions for ftp users. For explanations of the file, see section DOWNLOADS of our webpages at http://www.eznos.org/
