XircomŪ Pocket Ethernet III Adapter (PE3-10Bx)
FAQ

Q: Are there laptops that don't work with Windows* 95 and PCMCIA adapters?

A: You should read the HARDWARE.TXT file in the Windows* 95 directory, this file is written by Microsoft and describes machine specific issues and requirements.

Q: Everything seems to load and I have installed the Microsoft* Client for NetWare*, but I still can't see my NetWare server when I click on Network Neighborhood.

A: At times the auto-detection of the default frame type fails. You can force the default frame type used by IPX
in the Network applet in the Control Panel. Select the IPX/SPX compatible protocol, click Properties and select the Advanced tab. Choose the Frame Type feature, open the selections menu and choose the appropriate selection.

Q: I am installing Windows 95 from a SCSI CD-ROM attached to a SCSI PCMCIA adapter. How can I install Windows 95 if its recommended that I don't load real mode card and socket services drivers since most SCSI devices require load a real mode SCSI driver?

A: Copy Windows 95 CAB files (source files) from the CD-ROM to your local hard drive. This requires 35MB of hard drive space. This will allow you to change settings on the system without using your CD-ROM. This also allows you to install Windows 95 without depending on the real mode SCSI CDROM driver. On systems pre-loaded with Windows 95 these source files are located in the WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABSdirectory.

Q: When using XircomŪ PCMCIA adapters, should I still use real mode Socket Services Drivers?

A: No, it is recommended that you do not load any real mode card and socket services drivers. This applies primarily to Windows 95 upgrades from DOS. In most cases you still want to load EMM386.EXE (in CONFIG.SYS) with the parameter NOEMS only. Do not use the HIGHSCAN parameter and in most cases you will need to remove the exclusion (X=D000-DFFF) from the with EMM386.EXE device line. Windows 95 does not detect devices correctly when using the HIGHSCAN keyword.

Q: Which Xircom Adapters are currently supported by Windows 95?

A: Windows 95 ships with 32-bit drivers for the following adapters.
