- To add a new movie to the libray: Click the "Add New Movie To Library" icon
to select an image file. If you don't have an image file, click the "Cancel" button. You'll be prompted to enter a title for the Movie. You must type a title to create a new record. The software will then determine a unique index number for the Movie and ask you to confirm. This index number will help you to locate the movie quickly if you store your physical CD or DVD in an indexed storage system. If you click "Cancel" at this point, the operation will be aborted. Please note that all the titles must have a unique name. If you type in a title that already exists, you'll get an error. If you selected an image, the the title of the image will be createc from the file name. You can edit the file name later if you wish.
A note about the index field: Numbers in the index field must be unique. If you enter a duplicate number, you'll get an error. For example, you can search for a movie titled "American Beauty", the arrow will point to index #71, you can then retrieve the DVD from slot #71 from your movie storage system.
- To remove movies from the library: Go to the movie and click the "Remove Current Movie From Library"
icon. A message will confirm the name of the movie you wish to delete from the library. You can then OK or cancel the operation.
- Click the icon "Get Image From Scanner" icon
to import a new image from scanner to replace the current image.
- To see all the movies in the library at once, click the "Show All Movies As Thumbnails"
icon. Please note that, it may take a while to generate the images of all the images in the library if you have a larger number of movies with images.
- If you want to replace the current image with another image, click the "Update Current Image"
icon to select the new image file.
- To print all the movie thumbnails in the library, simply click the "Print Thumbnail of Movies"
icon. The default printer settings are for the HP PhotoSmart P1100 that will print 16 movies per page. You may have to adjust the printer settings for your printer before printing by clicking the "Print Settings" under the "Options" menu. Check the "Print Image Caption" box if you also want to print the title of the movie under each image.
- You can also play the movie trailer simply by clicking the "Play Movie Trailer"
icon. In order to use this feature, you must install the necessary plug-ins such as Apple QuickTime, RealPlayer, or Windows Media Player. Clicking a movie without an attached trailer will prompt you to select the trailer file. If a trailer file has already been attached to the movie, clicking this icon will automatically play the trailer using the appropriate plug-in. Since movie files are large, I'd recommend storing them on removable media such as removable discs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, DVD-Rs, DVD-RWs, etc.

NOTE:
- If a movie has no trailer file attached and you click the "Play Movie Trailer" icon, a file dialog box will appear to let you select a trailer file to attach and play.
- Before launching a movie trailer, make sure that you set a trailers folder (under "File", "Movie Trailers Folder"). Since movie trailers are large files that are best to be stored on removeable media, this was designed so that you can move the entire trailer files to any folder any time. All you need to do is to tell Movie Library where the trailers are so it can find them.
- The 4 icons "Move First", "Move Previous", "Move Next", and "Move Last" respectively
are used to navigate the library. You can also go directly to any record just by clicking it. A small rectangle will appear to the left of the record indicating that it's the current record being selected.
- To search for a particular record, use the
icons. The search criteria will appear to let you define your search criteria.
- Click the "Exit"
icon to terminate CDDVDLib.
- Sort Order: To sort any column, double-click the column heading. The ascending or descending sort order can be specified using the "Sort Order" item from the "Options" menu.
- The grid was designed so that you can glance though multiple records at the same time. However, some records may have more data in certain fields that cannot be displayed entirely (such as a movie's plot). To see all text in any field, just single click the column heading for that field (the entire column will be highlighted and the the text for the currently selected record will be displayed in the larger text box in the lower right corner.) If you hover your mouse over this box, the currently selected field name will also be displayed. You can then edit the data in the box and when you're done, click the "Update" button to save the data.
- The recommended resolution for a scanned image is 150 DPI.
