Tandy Corporation News Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 9, 1988 Ed Juge TC-88-033 Director, Market Planning (817) 390-3549 SUPPORT FOR TANDY'S DESKMATE INTERFACE GROWS FORT WORTH, Texas -- Tandy Corporation's DeskMate interface continues to gather favor as four additional companies have expressed support of Tandy's philosophy to bring ease-of-use to the low-end computer market through its DeskMate enviornment. New developers who are working with Tandy are 3Com, Digital Learning Systems, Epyx, and Star Software Systems. These companies join Activision, Broderbund, Electronic Arts, First Byte, Intuit, The Learning Company, Sierra On-Line, Software Publishing Corporation and Symantec in a commitment to provide low- cost personal computers in the home and business markets with the same ease- of-use provided by interfaces for higher end computer products. In an effort to expand on DeskMate's networking capabilities, Tandy has worked closely with 3Com Corporation to insure that applications bundled with Tandy's DeskMate are compatible with 3Com's 3+Share network system and 3+Mail system. As an operating enviornment, DeskMate brings a common interface to diverse application programs through a standard set of pull-down menus, pop-up dialog boxes, and keyboard and mouse commands. It is a unique, easy-to-use interface for low-cost 8088, 8086 and low-end 80286-based personal computers. The first DeskMate applications are expected to appear in the third quarter of this year. These products will be available through various channels including more than 7,000 Radio Shack stores, Computer Centers, Plus Computer Centers and participating dealers nationwide.
