Fm: Ches Looney 73016,1336 To: ALL I have recently purchased an 1100FD and it is proving to be a most capable and helpful tool. I had used a 100 and a 102 for years and find the 1100 to be more powerful in many respects, but the 100/102 implementation of Text, Cut and Paste accross the various applications is better than the 1100. Still, it sure is nice to have a clear screen with 24 lines of 80 characters. The documentation with the 1100 is poor, however, and the new 1100 user who is a novice is going to have some problems. The following comments have been sent to Tandy feedback; their answers will be posted when/if received. Issues re DeskMate and the 1100FD. Can information be moved from one application to another? In DeskMate 2, the information is copied to the clipboard; is there the equivalent of the clipboard in the DeskMate on the 1100? The Quick Reference document for the 1000 TX (and perhaps the 1000 HX) has a section on BASIC commands. The Quick Reference document for the 1100 has no reference for BASIC. Could 1100 owners be provided a reference for the BASIC interpreter included in the 1100? The Getting Started document for DeskMate included with the 1100 is extremely elementary. Can 1100 owners be provided with a DeskMate reference comparable to those provided with the 1000 TX and HX computers? How is the To Do file cleared? The "Cancel" command on the Corkboard accessory is misleading; exit or save/exit might be better choices. -------------------------------------- Fm: Bob Lakin 70250,1043 To: Ches Looney 73016,1336 (X) I can answer the question about the clipboard: Yes. You'll notice on the Edit menu that you have all the expected cut/paste/copy commands. They work as expected. ----------------------------- Fm: Ches Looney 73016,1336 To: Bob Lakin 70250,1043 (X) Well-l-l not really, or at least not as I understand the workings on the 1000TX. I tried to paste a text segment into FILER with no success on the 1100, but I haven't had a chance to try it on the TX yet. Pasting text into TEXT works ok, but I'd like to cut and paste across applications. In particular, I'd like to paste a name/address list into the ADDRESS application. The 1100 doesn't seem to have the equivalent of the clipboard on the HX or TX. I suppose the Corkboard can be used, but it appears much more awkward than the clipboard. It'll do everything you want and is very well integrated. Not only can you paste a database or spreadsheet into a word processor file, you can use font and typestyle commands in the database and spreadsheet programs! Take that, Tandy. ----------------------------- Fm: Ches Looney 73016,1336 To: Ray Reyes 76703,3100 (X) No sale on Works - I'll stick with DBase and Quattro for database and spread sheet w/good graphics. OTOH, TEXT in DeskMate is fine for most of my WP needs. The questions are more for pressing to see just how much can be done with DeskMate for the 1100 versus DeskMate for the 1000xx. The documentation is so poor with the 1100 that I'm not certain just how much is possible. Tandy's logic on this is to put most of the needed info in Help files on the 1100, but the searching implementation coupled with the slow disk is a great stress inducer. It's a lot easier to flip pages in a book than to wait through several screen/key press iterations. But thanks for your feedback - Works is a popular program with justifiable reputation for good performance. Ches.
