Sb: #Everex EGA in TX Fm: Richard W. Doig 73767,32 To: all Good news, bad news. EGA in my TX. Good news: I received my MultiSync II and Everex EV657 (max resolution 800 x 600) super EGA today. Bad news: The EV659A that I traded (max resolution 640 x 480) has one more dip switch than the EV657. The dip switch to shut off the auto-switching. On the EV657, the autoswitching cannot be disarmed like it can on the EV659A. Good news: Both boards can be set to auto-switch on IRQ2, IRQ3, or NMI. Better news: The Everex 800 x 600 driver displays Generic CADD Level3 properly, even though the MultiSync II is only supposed to do 800 x 560. More better news: I've only noticed one glitch after switching from 640 x 350 to 800 x 600 and back again - The control-alt-delete combination doesn't re-boot the machine properly. Great news: I found a program over in Library 3 of the PC Junior Forum (GO IBMJR), named SAVENM.ARC. It's a TSR program that's supposed to restore the NMI vector if anything corrupts it. Apparently, this is common on the PC Jr. I installed it, and whadaya know? The control-alt-delete works again. Other info: Everex makes 3 EGA boards in the Micro-Enhancer series: EV657 - Also called Micro-Enhancer II. Max resolution 800 x 600. Auto-switching cannot be disarmed. Hercules emulation can be disarmed. VGA emulation is external software. Has parallel port that can be disabled. I don't know if it comes with font software. (I didn't look, and it's at work). EV659 - Max resolution 640 x 480. Auto-switching can be disarmed. Hercules emulation can be disarmed. VGA emulation is built into the BIOS. Comes with 22 EGA fonts. Has parallel port that can be disabled. EV659A - Identical to EV659, except it has no parallel port. Saves about $15.00. I keep everyone posted. Rich ------------------------------------------ At last, I seem to have the Ctrl-Alt-Del working on my TX with the Everex EV657-1 EGA card. I got a copy of INTVID.COM from the EGA utilities disk at a local Radio Shack, load it from my Autoexec.bat file, and I found that if I turned dip switch #5 ON on the EGA board (Full Hercules and CGA Emulation), the Ctrl-Alt-Delete started to work. You still do get an occasional lockup, but the incidence now is similar to what I get with the CM-11 on my other TX. My older game programs (Flight Simulator 2.14 and F-15 Strike Eagle) still won't run on the EGA, but everything else now works. Autoswitching is really nice, since I'm running Generic CADD Level 3 on this setup and the 800 x 600 mode is spectacular. HOORAY! Rich
