Tandy 1000 TL/3 (250-1603) Initializing a Smart Drive  Faxback Doc. # 1255


The Tandy 1000 TL/3 supports the installation of  one 20MB or 40MB SmartDrive.
After installing the drive, you must initialize it for use with the computer.

The initialization is done from the Desktop, the first screen displayed in
the DeskMate user interface. You will need a blank 720KB diskette to complete
the initialization. Follow the directions below to initialize the SmartDrive.

1. Label the blank diskette "SmartDrive Installation Backup Diskette."

2. Turn on the computer and insert the blank diskette into the 3 1/2" diskette
drive (Drive A).

3. Press <TAB> until you highlight the PROGRAMS box. Press the down arrow
until you highlight "HINSTALL.PDM"  Press <ENTER>.

4. Follow the prompts displayed on the screen to initialize the drive.

When the program asks you to continue, press <ENTER>. If you need to stop,
press <ESC> to cancel.

After you complete the initialization, store your SmartDrive Installation
Backup Diskette in a safe place. You will use the diskette if you ever need to
re-initialize the drive.

Your SmartDrive can be accessed as Drive C. If you installed a 20MB
SmartDrive, you will need to format the drive. If you installed a 40MB 
SmartDrive you will need to format and partition the drive. Refer to the
documentation included with the SmartDrive. For more information about
installing application programs on the drive, refer to the application
documentation.
