TANDY 1000 RSX (250-1454/55) Video Memory Faxback Doc. # 1335 Your 1000 RSX comes with 256 KB of video memory permanently installed on the main logic board. You can increase the number of available colors and enhance the screen resolution by installing additional video memory chips. To use the 640x480, 256-color graphics mode, 800x600, 256-color graphics mode, or the 1024x768, 16-color graphics mode, you must increase the amount of memory to 512 KB. Use a 256 KB Video memory upgrade kit (25-1082A) to increase the video memory. The kit has two video memory chips that fit into sockets on the main logic board. Before installing the video memory chips, read the instructions that came with the kit, and then, follow the instructions below. CAUTION: If the video memory chips are not installed correctly, the chips and the main logic board may be damaged. Install the chips carefully. 1. Disconnect any cables from the back of the computer. Then, open the computer. 2. Locate the two video memory sockets on the main logic board. 3. Remove one video memory chip from the anti-static packaging. 4. Align the dot on the notched end of the chip with the corner of the socket labeled 1. Pin 1 of the chip is indicated by a dot and a notch on one end. The main logic board is labeled 1 at the Pin 1 end of the memory chip sockets. 5. Carefully press the chip into the socket. Do not bend the pins of the chip. 6. Repeat Steps 2 through 5 to install the remaining video memory chip in the other socket. When you are finished installing the video memory chips, replace the computer cover. Then, restart the computer. You now have 512 KB of video memory.
