TANDY 1000 SL/2 (250-1402) Features Faxback Doc. # 1357 MS-DOS in ROM: The computer has the fundamental portion of MS-DOS in ROM; simply turn it on and begin using it right away. Access to many of the MS-DOS functions is available without having to use the MS-DOS diskette. Deskmate in ROM: A large portion of DeskMate is in ROM (the main desktop and some drivers). The DeskMate diskettes contain all of the applications and accessories that are not included in ROM. The Desktop normally appears when you start the computer. You can use the SETUPSL2 program to change whether it starts with DeskMate or MS-DOS. Speller in ROM: The computer includes the spelling checker built into the ROM. Because it is built in, the spelling checker is extremely fast. You can use the spelling checker for DeskMate applications as well as for any files that are saved in the ASCII format. Special EEPROM: A special Electronically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) gives the computer the ability to remember the way you want it to run. The EEPROM stores information such as whether you want the computer to start in DeskMate, the built-in MS-DOS, or from a disk. The EEPROM is initially set for the most popular configuration (DeskMate); however you can change this information at any time.
