3000 HL (250-4070/4071) Floppy Faxback Doc. # 1406 The 3000 HL comes with one 360K floppy drive. It can be expanded to include a second drive. This drive may be any of the following: 360K floppy (5 1/4") 1.2MB floppy (5 1/4") 720K floppy (3 1/2") 1.44MB floppy (3 1/2") The original floppy is interchangable with any of the above drives allowing several possible combinations. Regardless of the floppy configuration, anytime a high density drive (1.2MB 5 1/4" or 1.44MB 3 1/2") is used a special controller is required. We suggest the dual speed floppy controller (25-4036) or hard/floppy drive controller (25-4060). Because the drive designation on the HL is cable selected not drive switch selected, both drives should be switched (3 1/2" drives) or jumpered (5 1/4" drives) to drive select 1. The cable will then designate which drive is "A" or "B" by their physical location on the drive tower. The top drive will be drive "A" and the bottom drive will be drive "B". The -MORE- connector on the end of the cable plugs into drive "A" and the middle connector plugs into drive "B". 3000 HL BIOS ROM AND MS-DOS SPECS The minimum recommended BIOS ROM for floppy expansion (except a 2nd 360k 5 1/4") is 1.03.00. However, 1.03.02 BIOS ROM or greater is strongly recommended for full expansion compatibility. MS-DOS version 3.20.03 and greater will support any combination of previously mentioned drives. The only relevant difference between 3.20.03 and 3.3 DOS will be reflected in the syntax of the DRIVPARM command. In order for a 720K 3 1/2" floppy to work with 3.3 DOS and the DRIVPARM command the following patches must be typed in at the MS-DOS prompt: PATCH IBMBIO.COM,4E0C,74,EB PATCH IBMBIO.COM,1EA1,30,41 The first patch allows the drivparm command to work with 3.3 DOS, while the second patch changes the DOS display from 03.30.00 to 03.30.0A to allow for identification between an original and a patched DOS version. USING THE DRIVPARM COMMAND Note: You will need to add the following Drivparm statement to the Config.sys file: With 03.20.03 DOS: DRIVPARM=/D:? /F:? Where: /D specifies the logical drive number- Drive A=0, Drive B=1, Drive C=2, etc. /F specifies the form factor index- 0=360K floppy (5 1/4") 1=1.2MB floppy (3 1/2") 2=720K floppy (3 1/2") 7=other (1.44MB floppy(3 1/2")) *NOTE: Only one "D" is used with 03.20.03 DOS. With 03.30.00 DOS: DRIVPARM=/DD:? /F:? with 03.30.01 DOS: DRIVPARM=/D:? /F:? Where: /DD specifies the logical drive number- Drive A=0, Drive B=1, Drive C=2, etc. /F specifies the form factor index- 0=360K floppy (5 1/4") 1=1.2MB floppy (5 1/4") 2=720K floppy (3 1/2") 7=1.44MB floppy (3 1/2") *NOTE:No patches are needed in any MS-DOS version other than 03.30.00. Note: Refer to you Computers MS-DOS manual for information on Editing or Creating a Config.sys file.
