3800 HD (250-3533) Memory Upgrades Faxback Doc. # 1438 Installing Single In-Line Memory Modules: Your computer has 640 KB of standard memory and 1024 KB of extended memory. The computer assigns memory between 640 KB and 1 MB as Shadow RAM. Part of the shadow RAM shadows the machine BIOS (basic input/output system) and another part of it may be used by EMM386.EXE (the MS-DOS memory manager). Refer to your MS-DOS User's Manual for detailed instructions on how to do this. Some software requires extra memory to run correctly and efficiently. Also, adding extra memory can sometimes make the computer run faster. You can expand your computer's 2 MB memory to 4 MB by installing a 2 MB single in-line memory module kit (25-3504). Note: 25-3504 contains 2 X 1MEG 80ns. SIMM chips. CAUTION: Use only specified SIMMs with the computer. Use the following procedure to install the SIMMs: 1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect the AC adapter. 2. Find the compartment cover near the top row of keys. Then, remove the cover by lifting up the front edge of the cover. 3. Position the SIMM so that its two modules face you and the two holes are at the top. 4. Install one SIMM in the front slot by tilting the card away from you and pushing the card into the slot. Then, tilt the top of the card toward you until it snaps into position. 5. Install the other SIMM in the remaining slot, as described in Steps 3 and 4. 6. Close the cover. Then, turn on the computer.
