The computer uses these parameters each time you turn on the computer. When you use the setup program, you must restart the computer to initialize the new parameters. The setup program's parameters and their factory settings are listed in the chart on the following page. DATE/TIME/SPEED: Date and Time Valid Date and Time CPU Speed Fast START UP: Num Lock Light ON COMMUNICATIONS: Serial Ports Normal Parallel Port Bidirectional YES VIDEO: Mode VGA Cursor Type Line OPTIONS: Power Management ON Speaker ON Floppy Standby ON TIMEOUTS: Standby Mode 10 Minutes Display 01 Minutes Hard Drive 01 Minutes DATE AND TIME: Lets you set the computer's date and time for MS-DOS. CPU SPEED: Lets you select the processing speed of the computer. You can select Fast (20 MHz) or Slow (10 MHz). NUM LOCK LIGHT: Lets you set the NUMLK indicator to automatically turn on when you turn on the computer. SERIAL PORTS: Lets you assign normal addresses to the serial ports, swap the addresses, or disable the ports. Your computer has two serial ports-- an internal serial ports for an internal modem or internal fax/modem and an external serial port for a mouse or other serial device. PARALLEL PORT BIDIRECTION: Lets you select YES for bidirectional printer operation or NO for unidirectional operation. Most printers will work with either setting, but other parallel port peripherals have specific requirements. MODE: Lets you set the video emulation mode to VGA, CGA, EGA, or MDA for the computer's LCD display. Select the video mode specified by the program you are running. Most software will run with this option set to VGA. CURSOR TYPE: Lets you select a line or block cursor. SPEAKER: Lets you turn the computer's speaker on or off. FLOPPY STANDBY: Lets you set the computer to turn off the diskette drive controller when a diskette is not being accessed. POWER MANAGEMENT: Saves battery power by running the computer at a slow speed when there is no keyboard or disk activity. STANDBY MODE: Lets you select the number of minutes of system inactivity before the display and hard drive turn off. You can set the timeout for 0, 10, 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes. This parameter operates only when the com- puter uses battery power. The computer does not enter the standby mode if you select 00. DISPLAY: Lets you select the number of minutes of keyboard and display inactivity before the display turns off. You can set the timeout for 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 minutes. The display stays on if you select 00. This parameter operates only when the computer uses battery power. HARD DRIVE: Lets you select the number of minutes of hard disk inactivity before the hard disk turns off. You can set the timeout for 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 minutes. The hard disk stays on if you choose 00. This parameter operates only when the computer uses battery power. NOTE: During the standby mode, the program you are running is suspended and the computer runs at a very low current. Even though the display and hard drive are off, you can resume the program by pressing any key. To run the setup program, follow these steps. 1. Exit from the current program. 2. If you are not in Drive C, type: c:ENTER 3. Select the DOS directory by typing: CD \dos ENTER 4. At the MS-DOS prompt, type: setup380 ENTER The setup screen appears. 5. Use the up and down arrows to select the parameter you want, and press the spacebar to choose the setting. 6. Do one of the following after you finish using the setup program: * Press ESC if you do not want to save your changes. * Press F1 if you need help on the selected parameter. * Press F2 is you want to save your changes. * Press CTRL-BREAK to reboot the computer without saving your changes.
