4020 LX (250-5120) Passwords Faxback Doc. # 1593 Passwords are a method of limiting access to your computer. By requiring using to enter a password at specific times, you can guard against unauthorized computer use. You can set up two types of passwords: a power-up password and a keyboard password. If your computer is a network server, you can also use the Network Server mode to allow other network users to access your files without having to know your power-on password. * POWER-ON PASSWORD--Prevents unauthorized use of your computer when you are not present. Once you assign a power-on password, you must enter it each time you turn on the computer. * KEYBOARD PASSWORD--Enables you to temporarily lock and unlock your computer's keyboard (and mouse if you have one) without turning off the computer. * NETWORK SERVER MODE--On a network server, enables software protection of the computer's status as a network server. Each password can have as many as seven characters consisting of any characters on the keyboard. The system does not distinguish between upper- and lowercase letters. The system records the exact keys you press as you enter your password. For Example, if you use the 6 from the top row of typewriter keys, you can not substitute the 6 from the numeric keys at the right side of the keyboard. Try to create passwords that are easy to remember. NOTE: The characters in the password are not displayed on the screen as you type the password. Keyboard Password: A keyboard password enables you to lock the keyboard and mouse without turning off the computer. When the keyboard and the mouse are locked, the computer will not process any other input until you enter the correct keyboard password.
