4825 SX (25-5141/42) Options Faxback Doc. # 1695 This section describes the procedures for opening and closing the computer and installing several hardware options. Carefully read the instructions in this section before beginning installation. When you install or remove an option: * remove and replace the computer cover as directed * read the appropriate instructions in this section and in the documentation provided with the option * run the setup utility by pressing F2 at startup to complete the installation of drives, memory, or video expansion adapters, and to configure serial and parallel ports. Your computer dealer can install optional hardware for you if you choose not to install them yourself. NOTE: A math coprocessor must be installed by your computer dealer. OPENING THE COMPUTER To open the system unit, follow these steps: 1. Remove the two cover-mounting screws from the computer's outer cover. These screws are located at the sides of the cover, near the back of the unit. 2. Slide the cover toward the front of the computer until it clears the chassis. 3. Lift the cover off the computer. 4. Remove the screws from the expansion adapter cover. 5. Remove the expansion adapter cover by pulling it out of the retaining slots at the bottom of the frame. 6. Use the front opening to rotate the carriage away from the frame. The carriage should rest at a 90-degree angle in the slots on the frame. CAUTION: Allowing the carriage to extend backward beyond the 90-degree position can damage the carriage hinge or cables. CLOSING THE COMPUTER 1. Close the carriage. Be sure it rests securely against the center bar. Check that any connections between the carriage and the main logic board are intact. CAUTION: Loose cables and cable connectors can damage your main logic board components or cables. Be sure the cable connectors do not extend under the 5 1/4" drive bay. If you install hardware options, also be sure the cables and cable connectors for those devices do not cause mechanical interference. 2. Slide the tabs at the bottom of the expansion adapter cover into the retaining slots on the frame. 3. Close the expansion adapter cover. Be sure it rests securely over the tabs on the carriage. 4. Turn the two screws on the expansion adapter cover. 5. Carefully position the outer cover on the base. 6. Slide the cover over the base toward the back of the computer until it fits into place. 7. Fasten the two cover-mounting screws into the outer cover of the computer. Reconnect all data cables and power cords.
