2820 HD (250-3553) Math Co-Processor Faxback Doc. # 1827 Note: Refer to Faxback Doc. # 9002 for Catalog Number and installation location information. Graphic design programs or programs that perform a large number of mathematical computations require your computer to do a lot of work. These types of programs can take additional time to run unless you have a math coprocessor (such as Intel 287XLT) in your computer. A coprocessor allows your computer to run these types of programs much faster. CAUTION: Be sure you touch a grounded metal object before you handle the coprocessor to eliminate any static electricity that could damage the coprocessor. To install a math coprocessor, follow these steps: 1. Exit the program you are in and turn off the computer. 2. Remove the battery (and disconnect the AC adapter if it is connected). 3. Remove the two screws from the compartment cover. 4. Position the coprocessor in the socket, as shown. Use the coprocessor's slanted corner and the socket's inside corner as guides. CAUTION: Be sure you correctly position the coprocessor. Once it is installed, you must use a special chip extraction tool to remove the coprocessor. 5. Press down the coprocessor until it snaps into place. 6. Replace the cover, and re-install the battery. 7. Turn on the computer. (smm 08/24/93)
