TANDY 2500 RSX (250-1620/21) 60MB Smartdrive Addendum Faxback Doc. # 1888 Jumper Settings: Your computer is shipped with a 60MB SmartDrive (IDE hard drive). A jumper on Pin pair C/D on the bottom of the SmartDrive configures it for use as the only IDE drive in the system. Do not alter the jumper setting if you have only one IDE drive. If you install another IDE drive, you must change the jumper settings for the 60MB SmartDrive. Determine whether you want to use the 60MB SmartDrive as the primary drive or the secondary drive. Then, refer to the following table to set the jumpers. The following table summarizes the jumper settings: JUMPER PIN PAIRS SETTING FUNCTION C/D Jumpered* Indicates that the drive is the only IDE drive installed. C/D + DSP Jumpered Indicates that this is the primary drive in a system with two IDE drives. Open Indicates that this is the secondary drive in a system with two IDE drives. E1 Open* Reserved for factory use. * Factory (default) setting. Refer to the documentation included with the drive you are adding for instructions on configuring it as the primary or secondary drive. Drive CAUTIONS: As you use the 60MB SmartDrive, keep the following information in mind: * Your computer dealer can help you select a hard drive that is compatible with the 60MB SmartDrive. Do not install the Tandy 240MB SmartDrive (25-4126). This drive is incompatible with the 60MB SmartDrive. * The 60MB SmartDrive is configured with the AUTO option of the setup utility. Do not use the AUTO option to configure multiple hard drives. Refer to hard drive documentation for the hard drive configuration parameters. Record the drive parameters on the worksheet near the end of the computer user's guide. Run setup to enter the drive type or the number, head landing zone, and sectors per track. If the installation procedure adds an executable file or a command to AUTOEXEC.BAT, you may have to modify AUTOEXEC.BAT after installing the application software. It is essential that the DeskMate command DESK remain the last executable file or command in AUTOEXEC.BAT. Otherwise, other executable files will not load as they should. DeskMate Sound and a CD Player: If your computer has a CD player installed, remember that some applications in DeskMate search all storage drives - including the disc in your CD player. (Diary and Home Organizer are two such applications.) If you are listening to an audio CD while executing one of these applications, your CD operation will be interrupted. DeskMate and Sound Blaster: If you have an audio board installed in your computer, be sure the interrupt request assignment for sound is configured properly. The interrupt for some non-MPC MS-DOS Sound Blaster applications is IRQ 7. (Refer to your application documentation and your audio adapter documentation for more information.) When you have DeskMate on your computer and use IRQ 7 for other applications, DeskMate sound has operational difficulties. To avoid conflicts with DeskMate sound, disable the Desktop sound and do not run DeskMate's music or sound applications. NOTE: This conflict can occur with any board or option you install that uses IRQ 7. Refer to the device documentation.
