Memory Expansion Board (250-4030) Installation Faxback Doc. # 2028 We recommend that you have the Memory Expansion Board installed by a service technician at your Radio Shack Service Center. Doing so not only ensures expert installation, but also enables the technician the quickly check to be sure all the equipment is functioning properly. If, however, you do decide to install the board yourself, follow the steps detailed here exactly. INSTALLATION 1. CAUTION should be exercised in low humidity environments to prevent damage to electronic parts by static electricity being discharged through them. (Discharge any built-up static electricity by touching a grounded metal object before proceeding further.) 2. WARNING: Turn off all equipment. Turn the power off and disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer. If the computer is on, you could damage the central processing unit, as well as your Memory Expansion Board. Before proceeding, be sure your kit contains the Memory Expansion Board with 36 chips in Banks 0 and 1. 3. When you are installing the minimum of an additional .5 meg of memory chips, available with two 256K add-on Memory Kits (260-3062), in bank 2 and/or 3 the chips must be installed in the next empty bank so that the expanded memory forms one contiguous block. Align each memory chip with the next empty socket so that the chip's notch is toward the left side of thee board make sure all the chip's pins are carefully aligned in the pin sockets before inserting the chip. being careful not to bend the pins of the chip, insert it completely into the socket. 4. Remove the screws from the back panel of the main unit. Remove the cover by sliding it toward the front of the unit, parallel to the computer. Your computer Owner's Manual contains illustrations on removing the cover. 5. Select any empty full length board slot with a dual connector and with a Phillips head screw driver remove the screw from the slot cover. Tilt the slot cover and lift the cover so that the tab clears the bottom of the slot. Store the cover in a safe place for possible future use. 6. Install the board by inserting the board edge into the connector. Install the screw (previously removed) and tighten it to secure the board. DO NOT over tighten the screw. 7. Before replacing the main unit's cover, check all connections and be sure that all screws are tightened. 8. Slide the fan filter out of the retainers. 9. Replace the main unit's cover and its screws. 10. Slide the fan filter into the computer from the bottom. NOTE: On units not having a fan filter, disregard items 10 and 12. NOTE: SETUP must be run before you can use your new Memory Expansion Board. See your Computer Installation and Operation Manual for Instructions on how to use SETUP. You can now use the new Memory Expansion Board in your computer. (RJS/jlc-04/28/94)
