Dual Display (250-3045A) Software Setup Faxback Doc. # 2091 Graphics Adapter The Utility Diskette that came with the DDGA is a menu driven program, VMODE.COM, that allows you to switch between video modes while operating your computer and without opening you computer case to reset switches. To run VMODE utility boot your Computer with MS-DOS, an put the utility diskette into Drive A. Type: vmode The screen will show the following menu: DDGA Mode Selection Menu Keywords: 1. Monochrome Text 80 x 25 - MT 2. Monochrome Text 132 x 25 - M25 3. Monochrome Text 132 x 44 - M44 4. Monochrome Graphics 1 page - MG1 5. Monochrome Graphics 2 pages - MG2 6. Emulation Text - E80 7. Color Text 80 x 25 - C80 8. Color Test 132 x 45 - C132 9. Exit to DOS 10. Monochrome 132 columns screen adjustment 11. Color 132 columns screen adjustment Enter Option: Select the number that corresponds to the video mode you want and press . The program will instruct you to connect the new monitor and press any key when ready. Follow the instructions as they appear on the screen. If you are switching from monochrome mode to color mode, or vice versa, the program then will remind you to verify if you have the correct monitor connected to the DDGA. Note: It is important that you follow the directions carefully. Otherwise, you may damage your monitor. If you are switching to a 132-column mode and are planning to run an application program in this mode, you must be sure that the application program supports 132-column mode. Note: Before using 132-column display for the first time, be sure to use Option 10 or 11 from the Menu to adjust the display. Use the arrow keys as instructed to center the row of numerals that appear at the top or your screen. When the display is centered, press . You need not make this adjustment each time you use VMODE. The preceding procedure creates a .TRP file. Copy the .TRP file to a disk for any future use. Once you become familiar with the Mode Switching program, you can skip the Menu process by typing: vmode "keyword" Note: Refer to the Menu screen, shown earlier in this document for information about the "keyword". Monochrome Graphics Note: If you plan to use the DDGA in the Monochrome Mode, you must run the VMODE program to allocate 1 or 2 pages of memory for graphics. You may choose to create a file which does this allocation automatically for you each time you boot your computer. To do this, follow the appropriate instructions below: With a Hard Drive: 1. Boot up your computer with MS-DOS installed on the hard drive. 2. Insert the Utility diskette into Drive A. 3. Copy the VMODE program to hard drive by typing: copy a:vmode.* With One Floppy Disk Drive: 1. Boot up your computer with MS-DOS disk in Drive A. 2. Remove the MS-DOS diskette, and insert the Utility diskette into the drive. 3. Type the following to copy VMODE to your MS-DOS diskette: copy a:vmode.*. a: 4. Follow the instructions on your screen for swapping diskettes. With Two Floppy Disk Drives: 1. Boot up your computer with MS-DOS disk in Drive A. 2. Insert the Utility diskette into Drive B. 3. Copy VMODE to your MS-DOS diskette by typing: copy b:vmode.* a: Now create an autoexec.bat file on the MS-DOS disk in drive A by typing: copy con autoexec.bat vmode "keyword" Press the F6 key and then to save the file. Note: Refer to the Menu screen shown earlier in this document for information about "keyword". Diagnostic Test Procedure: The DDGATEST.COM file, lets you verify the operation of the card. To run the diagnostic program, boot up under MS-DOS and place the utility diskette in Drive A. Type: ddgatest The screen shows the following menu: DDGATEST ver. xx.xx.xx Copyright 1985, 1987 Tandy Corp. 1. Test Monochrome Mode 2. Test Color Mode 0. Exit Enter Option: Select the number that corresponds to the mode for which you set the DDGA. For example, if you set the DDGA to run in Color Mode, type 3.A prompt appears asking how many times you wish to run the test. For most cases once is enough, so simply press for the default.A menu of available tests for the mode you selected appears. You can either select individual tests or run all tests. When you finish running the tests, type 0 to exit to the previous menu until you return to the MS-DOS system prompt. (smm 08/25/93)
