When you install the drive in the drive bay, the two mounting holes on the L-bracket align with the two mounting holes on the bottom of the carriage. Another mounting hole, located on the side of the 5-1/4" drive bay, aligns with a mounting hole on the side of the mounting bracket. To reach the side mounting hole, insert a screw and screwdriver through the hole on the side of the carriage. 4. Secure the drive by using three machine screws. Installation in a Type B Chassis: In a Type B chassis, the SmartDrive can be installed in either the 3-1/2" drive platform or a 5-1/4" drive bay. See the appropriate instructions in this section. Type B Chassis, 3-1/2" Drive Platform: To install the drive in the 3-1/2" drive platform: 1. Remove the two screws that attach the drive platform to the chassis. 2. Slide the drive platform back. Lift the platform to remove it from the chassis and the drive tower. 3. Attach the drive to the platform as shown, using the four machine screws provided with the computer. 4. Attach the drive platform to the drive tower by sliding the platform forward along the top of the drive tower until the tabs (not shown) on the bottom of the drive engage. 5. Install the two screws (previously removed) to secure the drive platform to the chassis. Type B Chassis, 5-1/4" Drive Bay: To install the drive into the 5-1/4" drive bay: 1. Determine which 5-1/4" drive bay you should use: *If the drive is the first hard disk drive in the system, install it in the lower 5 1/4" drive bay. *If the drive is the second hard disk drive in the system, install it in the upper 5 1/4" drive bay. 2. Attach the mounting brackets required for installing the drive in the 5-1/4" drive bay. Use two machine screws to attach a bracket to each side of the drive. 3. Remove the appropriate drive rails (upper or lower set) from the drive tower. 4. Attach the drive rails and metal grounding clips to the mounting bracket using the four machine screws provided with the computer. 5. Slide the drive into the 5 1/4" drive bay until the rails lock into place. Note: You can connect the SmartDrive to the cable either before or after sliding the drive into the drive bay.
