AT Smartdrive Adapter (250-1095) Installation Faxback Doc. # 2190 Attaching the Smartdrive to the Adapter: Note: Illustrations are in the Owner's Manual on Page 10. After the SmartDrive and interface board jumpers have been set and the two cables between them connected, you should attach the drive to the drive frame. You may do this in either of two ways: 1. Using the extenders from the bottom of the drive to the adapter. 2. Attaching directly from the side of the drive to the adapter. Some drives can be attached in both ways; others will only fit in one way, depending on how the screw holes line up. Option # 1: * Screw the four hexagonal extenders to the bottom of the hard drive in the indicated locations. Place the drive in the drive frame and fasten it, using the four included small flat head screws. Option # 2: 1. Place the drive in the drive frame and fasten it from the side using the four included large flat head screws. Attaching the Tail Bracket to the Drive Frame: After the SmartDrive is attached to the drive frame, you attach the tail bracket to this assembly. Three tail brackets are included in this kit. Use this chart to determine which bracket to use with your computer. Attach the bracket to the assembly. Bracket Computer A Tandy 3000*,3000 HL,3000 NL, 4000, 4000 LX B Tandy 1000 SL,1000 SL/2,1000 TL C Tandy 1000,1000 A,1000 TX,1000 SX * Note: Although the owner's manual states that this device can be used in a Tandy 3000, the adapter will not physically fit in an expansion slot. The 3000's alternating 16-bit and 8-bit slots interfere with the adapters hard drive bracket. The tail brackets do not fit in the 1000 TL/2 or 1000 TL/3. If you are installing the kit in one of these machines, just leave the bracket off. Other PC compatible machines may be able to us the tail brackets. Attach a tail bracket to the drive frame and put the assembly in the computer. If it does not line up properly, try another tail bracket. If none of the brackets fit, install the assembly into the computer without a bracket. (smm 08/25/93)
