466 DX/2 (259-5149) Expansion Adapter Faxback Doc. # 2218 The two-slot expansion area supports two half-length expansion adapters. The three-slot expansion area supports three full-length adapters. However, if a microprocessor is installed in the performance upgrade socket, some adapter types might not fit in the bottom slot. Note: If you install a video adapter, you must disable the SVGA circuitry on the main logic board by changing the setting for Jumper Block J28. Before you begin, carefully read the following steps and the documentation provided with the expansion adapter. To install an expansion adapter: 1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect all cables. 2. Discharge any accumulated static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Then, open the computer. 3. If you are installing an expansion adapter in the two-slot expansion area, remove the power supply. 4. Remove the expansion slot screw and cover. Save the slot cover in case you later remove the expansion adapter. 5. If an expansion adapter in the three-slot area requires internal cabling, remove the riser card, route the cabling through the opening at the top of the riser card, and reinstall the riser card. 6. Press the expansion adapter into the slot connector on the riser card. When installing a full-length adapter, be sure the adapter is correctly positioned in the guide slot. 7. Secure the expansion adapter bracket, using the screw you removed from the slot cover. 8. Connect expansion adapter cables (if any) as specified by the instructions provided with the adapter. 9. Reinstall the power supply if you previously removed it. 10. Be sure the internal cables are securely connected and do not cause mechanical interference. Then, close the computer. 11. Reconnect the cables. 12. Update the CPU worksheet at the end of the owners manual. 13. Run the setup* utility to update the system configuration. * The setup utility is started by pressing F2 during the cpu startup Faxback Document # 2210 will provide specific details on running the setup utility.
